CMU Embedded Software Engineering vs. CU Boulder Embedded Systems Engineering

CMU -
Duration - 16 months
Cost - 75L INR
No scope for Summer Internship

CU-Boulder -
Duration - 2 years
Cost - 45L INR
Will have a chance for summer internships.

I am confused between these two options primarily due to the huge difference in cost.
Keeping in mind the cost, job opportunities, ROI, etc.
Can any one help me decide by eliciting various factor that should be considered while deciding on the college?
TIA.

Are these on line programs or are you going to reside in Boulder or Pittsburgh?

Here is an FAQ for the Boulder program:

It seems this is called a “professional masters” program thus the lower costs.

You can get a fellowship possibly at Boulder, it says, so ask about that.

CMU has a much higher rank in CS than CU Boulder , and the program looks a little different in content.
It seems to me that there would be plenty of jobs at the end of this CMU program, so I would not worry about
taking a break and a summer job, but worry more about the content of each program versus your career interests.

CU Boulder Engineering is frankly terrible about helping students find jobs. Many grads have to move to California, as there are certainly not enough engineering jobs in Colorado for all the CU, Mines, Colorado State , and U of Denver grads here in engineering. You will be on your own, after this masters degree in Boulder to look for a job.

CMU, I think is better at placing graduate students, but ask to talk to current students in the exact program you are considering. Visit the placement office at both campuses and assess how they will help you at the end of these masters programs.

Here is one link to the CMU program. Compare the programs course by course to see the differences.

What do you want to do with it?

I do embedded software/systems, and I suspect it probably matters most how the coursework for each aligns with your own goals.

After completion, you’ll go where the job is, regardless of school. And honestly, if the job is decent, you’ll find lots to like about wherever that is.
