cmu orientation 8/19-8/26

cmu orientation 8/19-8/26, need to attend whole session or just attend some days? suggestions? Thanks!

Move in is on the 19th I believe and yes I also think you need to attend the whole session. I am sure there are always exceptions, but the majority will probably be there the entire time.

I think they make it really fun, have some great events and plenty of bonding and time to make friends. If I were you, I’d miss as little as possible.

You don’t HAVE to go, but you will regret it a lot if you don’t. You meet a lot of people at orientation, and you will make friendships and acquaintances that you will find very valuable later down the road.

Plus it’s a blast. Orientation will be that fond memory you have after academics slaps you hard in the face. Many upperclassmen try to be orientation counselors just to relive the experience…

You don’t have to go to EVERYTHING (like they try to make you). But try to go to the main things, what your RA suggests, and just random stuff you and your new friends (or friends for the time being as people mix and match and try to find their real friend group) find interesting.

My roommate thought it was all childish and did not participate with much of Orientation and stayed in his room, and let me just say…he was pretty lonely fall semester…

Plus, everyone is here the 19th. I don’t know of anyone who didn’t come to campus the 19th, though possible there were a couple. Of course, that doesn’t mean there weren’t some unsocial kids hiding in their rooms behind laptops for the entire Orientation…

Just a quick question- does it cost extra to attend freshmen orientation or is it included in the tuition for that year? We have friends who have a daughter that attended a freshmen orientation at another college and it was an extra fee.

Orientation is free, almost everything is already paid for. There are some special stuff that may cost a few dollars, but they are by no means necessary to have a good time, or at all expensive.

Orientation is actually $198 (according to my finance activity page). But even if you don’t go, they will still charge you in the assumption that you do.

I’ll be the first to admit, I didn’t like some things at orientation. But I did meet a lot of great friends and I’m glad I did (most) things we were “required” to do.

The thing is, some people love orientation, others don’t. You won’t know until you do it yourself. Just know, it will be the last stress free week at CMU for the next four years lol

(Your deposit covers it) Free but not free.

Orientation is pretty much where you build the bulk of your social life/circle. Make the most of this opportunity.
