If you can afford it CMU, if you can’t UCSD.
I don’t think this is a question, CMU is better than UCSD in every way except cost.

similar question here, but comparing CMU to UCSB’s CCS for math and computer science

@sam222 if you got into SCS (school of computer science) at CMU you should definitely go there as it has the one of the best CS programs in the world (tied with MIT and Stanford).

For CS, it’s a completely different animal. It totally depends on your priorities. One place will be more laid back, significantly easier, pleasant weather, tans and beach days.
The other place will be incredibly difficult (for CS in particular), very work intensive, colder weather, more intellectual. But you’ll have a degree from one of the very top CS schools in the world, and you’ll have that forever. If you can bear to stick it out.

A few more questions:

Our family AGI is only about $70K, how much Schalorship / grant we are expecting?

Why in CMU web site, there is not too much curriculum information? Only majors / program names. In UCSD, there is lots of curriculum / course information there.

If you can go to CMU without acquiring too much debt, especially if you’re planning to go to graduate school, go there!
But UCSD is an pretty good school, third in the UC system. I’ve heard that it’s expected to surpass UCLA in the next few years.

" Why in CMU web site, there is not too much curriculum information? Only majors / program names."

It’s all there, you just have to keep looking till you find it. More than you’d ever want to know. Here is a link with more info about the required/suggested curriculum than you’ll want to read: [School of Computer Science](School of Computer Science < Carnegie Mellon University)
