Coarses that were fun....

I was just wondering since we,as freshman, are absolutely clueless on which classes are worthwhle taking or that are just fun , could anyone attending stanford list their favorite coarses?

Here is all i have heard

1)Psychology
2) Math 51H(my friend is crazy, but that is what he told me he liked the best)
3) sleep& dreams

My favorite courses:

1) Psych 1: Introduction to Psychology
2) Bio 150: Human Behavioral Biology
3) Surg 68Q: Current Concepts in Transplantation
4) Bio 44X & 44Y: Core Biology Labs
5) Psych 60: Introduction to Developmental Psychology

That's in order of preference :) Feel free to ask if you'd like more commentary.

Chem 35, Spring Quarter: hard, but Professor DuBois is freaking amazing

Med275: very interesting look at biotech through a seminar series of guest speakers who are leaders in the industry from around the bay area. Some of these speakers you'd have to pay about two grand to see for an hour anywhere else, so it definitely gives you your money's worth. Also has interesting projects you can on for an additional unit in the class.

CS106A: kind of on the time-consuming side if you're new to programming, but it's pretty fun, since your projects include making games you can actually play. Also, the service section that was offered was pretty cool, you get to go to a middle school in the area and teach kids some basic programming.

cs106A was FUN FUN FUN (summer '05 when I took it)

Yahtzee + Adventure + breakout... can't lose w/ that!

I agree - just finished it this past quarter. And I'd never done any sort of programming before - so newbies don't be scared!

What's adventure? I don't think we did that one

Be glad you didn't do adventure--it's a hell of a long project, and really time-consuming. The only reason I was able to pwn it was because I've had a lot of programming experience before.

I personally loved Econ 1a (I'm a Chemical Engineer major mind you). The teacher (Marcelo) is amazing, the book easy to understand and the TA are great!

Math 51H was a lot of fun. I agree wholeheartedly.

Hehe, any fun ihum classes? especially for philosophy?

Take Visions of Mortality Fall Quarter and then Fate of Reason during Winter & Spring. Professor Bobonich is legendary for a reason. :-)

That was some quick response! Heh, thanks jwj, I will check them out. :D

Any courses in spelling? :)

Shhh :)

Superwizard, nice to hear that you enjoyed Marcelo's class; he was my RF freshman year :)

^Marcelo is really a great guy and a great teacher!

SLE...best decision...ever.

I took Multivariable Calc this year at Cal (as a Senior), but it didn't cover any linear algebra.
Any ideas as to which math class this would place me into?

well if it didn't cover linear algebra I doubt it'll get you out of Math 51 (which is half linear algebra half multivariable calc).

Yeah...I think you're just going to have to take 51.

Personally, I liked 52H much better than 51H. Even though I barely understood half the stuff. Actually, I think that somehow made it more fun.

Polisci 110D, British Politics, is a partay.
