CoC CalSO

So I'm enrolled in the CoC, and I've registered for the CalSO on June 8-9th. Here are the classes I have in mind for the fall semseter:

Math 53
Chem 4A
Chem C96
German 1
French R1B

An advantage of going to the earliest CoC CalSO is, well, being early, especially for phase I. However, it's not the most convenient CalSO for me (field trip, final, although I can skip the field trip and take this final another day). What if I changed my reservation to the CalSO the next week, the third and last CoC CalSO on June 15-16th? It's still open, so it must still be possible, but I'm worried about the classes I intend to sign up for.

For Math 53, I have to sign up for the first section (350 seats left), as the second one's lecture conflicts with that of Chem 4A (225 seats, which must be enough for the CoC freshmen, right?). I'm not sure if Chem C96 (119 seats left) and German 1 (66 to 83 seats in the lectures that don't conflict with Math 53/Chem 4A) may also run out of space. And I'm pretty apathetic about French R1B, especially if I end up not taking it if I end up doing ChemE.

Are there any classes in my planned schedule that OBLIGATE me to go to the eariest CalSO to be the first past the post, or can I afford to let some CalSO's (from all schools) pass before mine?

um, bump? any classes that i intend to take that are “at risk” if a miss a week full of CalSOs?

If you’re concerned, why not the 2nd CoC calso? I plan on going to that one (12-13) since it’s right after my graduation.

I have no idea. I heard that Math 53 always has room phase II, and if there’s no room in a particular lecture and you waitlist, there’s a high chance you’ll get in. Besides, I heard we can switch 53 and 54 up if we need to b/c they both have the same prerequisite (1B) and they’re separate classes.

chem 4A is enough for CoC freshmen. you just might not get the lab time you want if you go to calSO later.

chem c96 is definitely enough room for CoC freshmen, I don’t think we have to worry about other majors trying to take that seminar.

In any case, I doubt any classes will be “at risk” so early into calSO. if anything, you’ll end up in a good spot on the waitlists. relax! enjoy senior year while you can :)

Don’t know about your other courses but for Math 53 (and many big lower division technical courses), they usually pack whoever they can into the class. You might not get the discussion section you want but you’ll get into the lecture.

Well, kemkid, my graduation is ON the 12th, so that’d be VERY inconvenient -_-

So a drawback I’d have to consider are lab and discussion times (although shouldn’t they be of concern anyway for freshmen? :stuck_out_tongue: ). And maybe waitlists (btw, I may take 54 during the summer, depending on some factors; let’s not talk about 54 right now, shouldn’t matter much right now anyhow)

And here I am, relaxing a bit too much for the last weeks of senior year ;)
