Does anyone know if the photo has to be a standard school photo? Like with a gray background?? Because I just want to send one of my senior pictures that I took outside. It’s head and shoulders, but it isn’t “standard.” Is that okay?

I can barley fit anything in those boxes!

Watermellen: D sent a picture taken from home last year. Typical head and shoulders shot. It was no problem. She was sent a book with photos and bios of all winners and there we many that didn’t use their school photo.

TangentQueen: I don’t think it is hours so much as quality and demonstrated leadership. At least that was the sense my D got when she met the others at Atlanta. I can tell you my D didn’t have 2,000 hours of EC.

Just guess on awards ceremony. They won’t DQ you if they can’t come to your school.

Are we supposed to list any awards we won under activities?

I don’t think so…that was just on the first application.

For the long essay, about what sets you apart, can it be creative? I was thinking of just submitting my Commonapp essay. It shows a few qualities about me that I want to express, but not explicitly. Are your essays creative, or more direct?

Thank you sanapplecap2!

@Passionfruit: yes, I think that’s okay, as long as we show something…

For the volunteer activities, what if we have activities that took place on many different occasions, but we don’t remember exactly which days? Do we have to list every single day, or can we say “many”?

@buzzer11: I just put the months in which the dates took place…e.g. 9/2007-9/2010

Also, is anyone else having trouble filling in all the boxes…? I don’t think I filled up half of any of them and my non-school related activities and skills has like 2 (piano and golf). Any ideas? Should I go further in depth and put like baking? hahah…but really…Is it important to fill up as many boxes as possible?

@Passionfruit: okay, I will do that then. Hopefully thats not too ambiguous. And yeah I haven’t filled them all either, surely its fine :)

Also: Emory application is not working for me either… was this ever resolved??

Isn’t the Emory thing just the survey? I just said ‘No’ for the first question, pressed submit, and was done with it.

when I press submit, nothing happens…

And now the server seems to be down. Anyone else?

WHat is the Embry thing??.. i am kind of confused here… i have done just about everything else

For the dual enrollment classes, is it hours per week you spend in the classroom or does it also include transportation time/homework and study time?

Does anyone else have an issue with not having enough character space to enter the names of activities or organization? What do you do? Can we change the format slightly to add another line for each box?

Emory thing not working for me either! This is frustrating. And for the bolivars actinides I just put the months in which the activities spanned. There’s not enough room to lost each date. I can’t seem to fill all the boxes either. :/

Guys, make sure that when you fill out the questionnaire, that you hit backspace before you start typing, so that the blanks are short rather than tall. Otherwise, the entire questionnaire will be 12 (!!!) pages instead of 6, which it’s supposed to be (you can check on the bottom, it says “page ___ of 6”. The font will change from Cambria to Arial I think, or at least it did for me

Just a thought I had about the ranking numbers -

I don’t think that they’re a ranking in terms of who’s the best. They might have to do with the area you come from regionally or simply the order processed. How could they possibly rank us based on those basic numbers? I still don’t understand how we were chosen really, but don’t worry what your number was because who knows how articulate the “favorites” are?

There is no space to explain our community service activities. How are they supposed to evaluate them then?

Also, the application says to not list community service activities if we already listed them in the 2010 section. But what if we participated in both 2010 and in prior years?
