Cockrell Engineering External Transfer

Asking on behalf of a friend--

Residency: Texas
Rank: #5, Early Graduate
SAT: 1890 (750M, 530CR, 610W) - She didn't study for it the first time, so she plans on re-taking in the fall.

She could have easily gone to UT after high school, but for personal reasons had to stay in Houston and go to UH. By the time she started her first semester at UH, she had 30 credit hrs from her community college (~3.65GPA). She was originally pursuing accounting and planned to transfer to McCombs, but has decided she'd like to study engineering.

Situation: For the first semester, she maintained a 4.0 GPA, but the next semester she took 2 upper level accounting classes...dropped one class, made a C in another. She's now at about a ~3.67 GPA.

How much will the C and dropped class hurt her? How difficult is it to get scholarships? Anyone with experience please provide input.

Thanks!

Forgot to mention that she's interested in Mechanical Engineering.
