Coffee Machines

Are coffee machines allowed in dorms at Rice

I think so…didn’t see anything against them in my Ds paperwork. She and her roommate both brought Kuerigs with them.

They should be. Just don’t set off the fire alarm

Yes it’s perfectly fine. I have one in my bathroom.

Yep, they’re fine. I have one in my room.

Also, while microwaves technically aren’t allowed unless you buy the overpriced microfridge thing they sell, you can get away with those, too. I’ve heard of people bringing full-size fridges into their suites as well.

Basically, as long as you don’t break anything or start a fire, you’re probably fine.

The fire alarms are extraordinarily obnoxious. Other than a potential 600 USD fine that you may get for setting off the alarm by doing something that is not allowed, you will likely incur the wrath of people who were denied a full night’s sleep.

It also depends on buildings. Some of the older buildings (Lovett, Sid, Old Baker, Old WRC, Hanszen, Jones, Old Brown) use photo sensors that can go off if obstructed by non-transparent particulate matter like smoke, dust etc… The new buildings like Wiess, Martel, McM, Duncan, New Brown, new Baker and Jones Central have ion sensors that are less likely to trip and throw a false alarm.
