Colby college vs. boston college

I was wondering if someone can compare and contrast these two schools academically. Particularly with the science department (pre-med/pre-dent). Alumni connection, teaching, placement info premed and dental schools, Etc.

They are SO different even though both are great colleges. BC is much larger, near an urban area and it is a Catholic school, which is not a minor point. Students there are fighting battles, like access to condoms, that haven’t been issues anywhere else for 30 years. You’re on a Colby forum, so you probably won’t be surprised to get some Colby bias in the feedback. Go to Colby! The total focus of the college is on undergraduate education. The college is small and you will have unparalleled access to professors. Medical and dental school placements are superb. Although Colby is not in an urban area, the focus is more diverse, international and less parochial than at BC.

Wow, it’s amazing that BC has figured out a way to ban condoms at the local CVS Pharmacy. Or maybe you mean that condoms are just so expensive that a college student could not be expected to actually purchase one.

I thought Colby was larger in area than BC. According to wikipedia, colby has a 714-acre sized campus, whereas BC has 332.5-acre sized campus. To the OP, colby’s premed program is highly sought after as the biology department has superb faculty and resources. To see where its premed grads go to now, check these links…web.colby.edu/careercenter/students/healthprofessions/stats/ and web.colby.edu/careercenter/about/services/ you will have to browse the later one as it isn’t a direct link to the health career advising. Hope it helps…this is biased towards colby ryt?

Colby may be larger in area (size of campus) but BC has many more students. It also has graduate as well as undergraduate programs. It is in a suburban area near a major city (Boston) while Colby is in a small town in Maine. If at all possible, you should visit both so you can compare them Both are great schools but they are really quite different in many respects.
