Colby College

Colby has a near 100% admit rate to medical school for students with above a 3.5 GPA and an overall placement of 75% to medical school. I guess we can close the argument over which school is the best for premed. Plus, Maine is paradise.

i would like to bump this ^

Why bump a topic you posted only 1 hour ago, at a time when no one is concerned with anything online lol.
But where did you get that data from? Care to share

[Colby College - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Colby College - Wikipedia)

Any source besides wiki lol. It is just that having a stat saying “over 3.5” is unusual. I never saw anything like that before. Usually it would only say the average. But if it is true, I am wondering about the distribution and average of those above 3.5.

This says something totally different. Wiki misinterpreted the data.

[Colby College | Academics | Colby Graduate Admissions Statistics](http://www.colby.edu/academics_cs/careercenter/graduate-school/health/statistics.cfm)

not saying its bad though, its just not the same as 3.5+=100% acceptance rate.

virtually what they’re saying is highly qualified applicants from colby are very successful in getting into med school, which is true everywhere. Colby has more success than average I would say, but you can’t say they have the best pre-med program based on that data.

In the end Colby is King…end of story.

Be careful about all this statistics. Some pre-med committees “filter” out candidates that have a low chance of acceptance, then they report 100% acceptance rate. You need to dig deeper, ask around, talk to people of different academic standings before making any conclusions. Researching this type of stats on internet might be waste of time and misleading. Self-relience will always win. Go to any UG and do your best, get best GPA, MCAT, nobody can take it from you.

I don’t think the OP is sure that the statistics are for U.S. M.D. schools. They probably included kids who go to foreign M.D. schools and D.O. schools. If so, then these statistics aren’t that significant, considering how foreign medical schools will take just about anyone who can pay.

^ thats correct, they do include D.O and foreign schools. On the website, refer to link I posted, there is a list of all schools the kids got into. That includes allopathic U.S., allopathic foreign, D.O, etc.

Colby is a very small school…average incoming class is about 490 students…how many actually end up applying. According to theeir website, over the past 10 years the admission rate is more like 75% to ALL med schools (foreign and DO included).

They further say this:

That’s a very broad statement and they never say what they consider to be “above average” MCAT scores? it could mean students with a 36+ or even 38+…remember that college websites are just another form of advertising and they are always going to do anything they can to make themselves look as good as possible. Colby competes very hard with Bates and Bowdoin for applicants, any edge they can provide to potential students is a big deal for them.
