My flight has been book on United. I'm so stoked for the 28th :).

yeah, my flight has been confirmed too. raelah, check on weather channel to see how its going to be the 1st, but I'm sure layering will be fine. I don't even wear my winter coat anymore..

Hi! My name is Tiffany Martin and I am one of the student workers that helps in the planning process for Colby Live. We are so excited to have all of the prospective students on campus in a few weeks and I am here to answer any questions that you may have to the best of my ability. :-)

As far as the weather, it gets pretty cold in Waterville (it is currently 30 degrees, which is pretty warm for this time of the year) so I suggest that you all bring warm clothes, including a down jacket.

I look forward to meeting all of you,
Tiffany Martin
Colby College
Class of 2009

Tiffany,

Do you know if being invited to Colby Live means that we are accepted?

I'll be flying into Portland on Saturday night. What is the Evening Social about and what will we do?

Tiffany,
Can you or a counselor from Colby Admissions explain what set of candidates that Colby Live is open to-- is it just for targeted minority students? Or, is it open to all interested in attending Colby?

An invitation to Colby Live means that the chances for acceptance are pretty high but not guaranteed. I encourage you to visit Colby and see if the college is a good fit for you in case you are accepted. :-)

The evening social is the initial meeting with other prospective students, 1-2 current students, and an admissions counselor. I have not been directly involved in that part of the planning process but I do know that it is a time for the students to socialize, ask questions, and get to know each other a little better.

Students who have already applied to Colby and who self-identify as ALANA (African-American/Black, Latino, Asian, Native American) and/or first-generation college students and who have not had the opportunity to visit the college are considered for Colby Live. The Office of Admissions extends invitations to students based on their academic and non-academic qualifications.

This is another winter-related question, but is it necessary to walk around campus with Bean boots or hiking boots to trudge through the snow or will I be okay with tennis shoes?

Tennis shoes should do the trick-- the Physical Plant Department and custodians do a great job of keeping the walkways cleared. Though, if you want to go for a walk through the arboretum or something to that effect, the snow is a good foot or two deep and merits a winter boot.

Have a great trip, and enjoy what Colby has to offer.
