Colby vs Davidson for Econ Major

S18 has pretty much narrowed his college choices down to Colby and Davidson. Weather and location aside, does anyone have experience with either of these schools, especially as it relates to the study of Economics? (He likes that you can concentrate on Financial Economics at Colby). Would love to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly. Thanks!

By available information based on faculty publishing, Colby currently places among the top 20 in economics when compared to other schools of its type. Davidson, at 43rd, places within the top quarter.

Davidson has strong ties with the banks in Charlotte which is one of the top financial centers for the country. I don’t think you can go wrong with either. Wish I knew more!

I am not familiar with the Econ programs. But I think of these schools as more similar than different. Weather aside.

But you also have as part of your student experience the ability to take part in the fun of school sports. Davidson has a great d 1 basketball program and it’s a good way to have fun outside of the library.

I was a recruited athlete at Colby and decided to go elsewhere after several visits. Recruit weekend with student athletes etc. it was beautiful and the kids seemed really really sharp. This was in the 90s. But it was just so remote and so far north it really did make a difference. The 6 hour car ride from Boston or what seemed like that far to Waterville was a deal breaker.

Great choices. Best of luck. You can’t go wrong with either
