I got accepted into both schools. I don't know a lot about Davidson beyond the southern stereotype since I go to a prep school in MA. I will be visiting Colby next week. Colby is very similar to my current school- preppy, small and wholesome. I am thinking about pre-law and major in political science or history. I felt Davidson has a better reputation in pre-law but most New Englanders don't seem to recognize its name. How do you think they compare in academic, students body, workload or anything else? Thanks !!

I live in California and my daughter is a Colby student. Outside of New England, LOTS of people have not heard of Colby, just like outside of California, most people have not heard of Pomona College in Claremont unless one’s family is really familiar with small liberal arts schools. There probably is not much difference between the schools (Colby and Davidson) except for the Southern vibe at Davidson. The South definitely has it’s own culture, which honestly a lot of people outside of the South sometimes have a hard time adjusting to (I grew up in Georgia). Having said that, Davidson has a GREAT reputation. I don’t think you will know for sure till you visit both.

Hey there-- So I am a Colby senior and don’t know anything about Davidson but I can say that from what you said it sounds like Colby would be a good place for you. The transition from small new england prep school to Colby is pretty seamless. I am a history major and I have had some wonderful professors. We have an extremely high success rate in terms of getting students into law school. In terms of our government or global studies majors, we have some of the most prestigious experts in their fields working as professors at Colby. I can’t speak for much about Davidson, but I can say I’d never trade my Colby experience for anything!
