This makes me so depressed… Is it possible for an international applicant with the great GPA, meaningful extracurriculars, and decent SATs to be accepted somewhere?
Most international full-ride applicants are accepted because they’re recruited athletes. Same thing for Colgate too.
They are kinda harsh on aid. Better to be rejected than being a kid from a <20k income bracket who receives a pretty small aid package.
But don’t be depressed. If you’re going for a Computer Science or Math degree, it doesn’t really matter where you’d get it from…at least outside of USA. I have a friend who works for Google in Zurich. Graduated from a ‘free’ public 3-year Uni in Europe. Same salary as his colleague who came from Cambridge.
Just try to focus on your studies wherever you go. Tech startups are a thing in 2010s, probably will be for the next 15 years too. Just be creative…and you can’t really get that virtue at a school.
international applicant - got rejected even though I did not ask for financial aid.
1470 SAT, 720 English Lit, 740 Maths 2 ( SAT 2) 3.84/4 unweighted GPA, decent essays. Quite surprising - been rejected by Middlebury, BC, and now here. Gotten into BU only, so far. I thought, however, that my stats met Colgate’s requirements, so quite disappointed.
That’s actually what I’m saying. You pretty much need an ‘application maker’…
Will it be a 1600 and 3x800…- you might be lucky to fall into the superstat group with Americans…
or it will be an EC like a startup with 5 digit income, European Champs in some sport etc…
some get in with an awesome essay, some because of legacy…but the more you think about it the more depressing it gets…so just don’t.
If they don’t believe in you, then I believe in you because you actually put enough effort to discuss this over the web and complete zillions of papers for your apps. Means you care about your education…and I know a lot of more superstated people or super athletes who just don’t
Waitlisted. Portal now has an option to accept/deny waitlist.
@Bullsworth123 did you just randomly check your portal or did you actually receive an email?
rejected intl rejected from 4 colleges in a row now, wish I had applied somewhere ED!
did anyone get their decision by mail?
@trish123456 Got an email.
@elliotalderson I don’t want to argue for the sake of the argument, but I think you are wrong. Lots of my international friends requesting full rides and I myself have been admitted to several good LACs and Ivies without being an athlete. Colgate included. Don’t make it seem like it’s impossible and people shouldn’t try.
I feel your pain, I’m intl’ too and have only been rejected so far. Still waiting for Colgate. Don’t lose hope, though! It’s easier to transfer to a top-tier later, and they have so many first-year applicants that they make some mistakes for freshmen anyway!
Let me see if I understand, though, did some people already get their decisions? And of those who got it, was any of them an acceptance letter?
I 100% agree with @imponderable . I myself, as an international, have gained acceptance to several top LACs and a top 10 college in the US so far.
@Larissadaruge ALL acceptances (domestic and international) are sent through mail (that’s how it apparently worked last year). Domestic students get their admissions decision by mail regardless of whether it’s an acceptance, rejection, or waitlist. International students receive rejections and waitlists through email.
@trish123456 do you know if this also applies to international students who happen to libe in the US?
Will they be sending emails later than 5 pm?
@Larissadaruge the definition of an international applicant doesn’t include permanent residents, so you’re a domestic applicant
This statement is off of Colgate’s website:
International students are defined as students without U.S. citizenship. This definition does not include U.S. dual citizens, permanent residents, or U.S. citizens living abroad.
@trish123456 I am actually not a permanent resident, I am just living here now with a student visa.
@Larissadaruge I’m not entirely sure about your case because Colgate has been vague with how they’re communicating with applicants, but I’m guessing if your mailing address is in the U.S., then you’re receiving any decision by mail (don’t take my word for it)
Their website says that they post their decision to all applicants with a U.S. Mailing address.
