Heard they accepted 2500. Numbers last year were too high so this class will be smaller than normal.

colgate seems to have a 12% admission rate this year
2621 accepted out of 21260 applicants.

Current Colgate student here, if you are a prospective parent/student or a parent of a student who is deciding on Colgate PAY CLOSE ATTENTION. Colgate is a great school, its academically rigorous and specializes in small class sizes, dedicated professors, personalized research opportunities, and a beautiful campus.

Here are the problems:
A) THE FOOD
The food here is terrible, like not just bad, but terrible. Last weekend they attempted to serve 3 day old Ham (How do I know it was that old?, because it was sitting out
) Furthermore, I know multiple students who have dislodged their jaws or had broken tooths from overcooked burgers/chicken. Additionally, the University refused to compensate the students for their troubles. The food here is terrible, if you dont have the money or a car I would advise against coming here because you are forced to buy a meal plan and can’t cook on your own ANYWHERE on campus. They say the commons have kitchens, but they are only open once a semester.

B) THE HOUSING
The housing and associated offices of residential life are terrible, students have had things stolen, laundry frequently gets urinated on/stained, and I have heard of multiple students being harrassed/assaulted by roommate and despite having no contact orders were forced to continue living with that person. This is unacceptable. Additionally the department is miserable and terrible at communicating with students. Colgate needs to fix these.

If housing/food are things that matter to you in college AVOID COLGATE.

Anyone still waiting for the waitlist?

I am waitlisted. Any chance to get off the waitlist of Colgate?

By design, Colgate will accept students from its waiting list this year.

I thought they haven’t accepted anyone off the waitlist last year?

where have u been deposited?

can you clarify?

Our D is a freshman at Colgate. Lsat year’s freshman class was WAY overenrolled by something like 150 kids so 900 instead of around 750. I haven’t heard anything about how Colgate will manage its yield for this year’s high school seniors but the school has said that it’s not looking for classes that big again. Best guess is that they accepted fewer kids and adjusted their yield model to hit closer to 750. We don’t know yet what that means for the waitlist.

As with other schools, Colgate will not hit the exact number of students they would like on the first try. To reach this number, they must plan to under-offer initially, with an expectation of some later reliance on its waiting list to reach optimum enrollment. By doing this, they will avoid a significant risk of over-enrollment, which has too many undesirable consequences, especially for students. Last year might serve as an example of these consequences, at Colgate and some other colleges.

true. But there are still schools out there that didn’t anticipate their yield well again this year. On the WL thread, BU said that they are overenrolled again like last year. We assume Colgate was more conservative in its offers this year but don’t know yet if they will go to WL. They could have handed out fewer acceptances but had a higher yield and would again not go to WL.
