Hi,I'm wondering if it makes more sense on breaks if I'm at college 7 hours away to drive or to fly home?

I think it depends on the length of your break. Shorter breaks may call for flying, longer - driving. Also, do you need your car when you are at home?

Well, I’m a little biased because I generally don’t like flying(long security lines, a ton of waiting at tarmac, uncomfortable) but love road trips. 7 hours doesn’t seem too bad though. And flying might take just that long if you have checked baggage and are connecting through busy airports[long lines and sometimes ridiculous stays at the tarmac]

7 hours… Is that like normal driving, or like road trip driving? I know once I have to commute tri-weekly to a place over an hour away, you really get used to booking it and going fast. I can cut a lot of time off of that.

I would not fly that. Driving would probably be the easiest but if you don’t want to do that you can probably take a bus or train or something. Flying will be more expensive and when you figure in time for check-in, security, waiting, etc. it would not save you that much time.

Drive really fast.

^Yeah. Drive fast and slow down when cops come. :)

Drive.

How long’s the flight? I’m guessing around 1 hour… Anyway, assuming that then once you consider getting to the airport, and getting from the airport to your house, you can tack on another 1-1.5 hrs. Then you’ll want to arrive at the airport maybe an hour or two in advance of your flight. Add another 1/2 hour for baggage claim etc. So you’re looking at like a 1 hour flight plus 3.5-5 hours for waiting, driving, and all that other stuff that goes with flying. So, in total, 4.5-6 hours.

It’s basically: pay a bunch of money and spend over five hours getting to your destination. Or, drive, pay lots less, plus have the convenience of being able to get decent food and snacks, stretch your legs, see cool scenery, and not freak out about turbulence, and it looks like driving for 7 hours is the better option.

:D

But I guess it really all depends on how much you like driving, and how much $$$$ you have.

Driving seems to be a better option than flying in this case. Yeah, seven hours can be a drag, but you end up having the use of your car at your house. My brothers always felt extremely trapped when they’d come visit from college because they literally were unable to leave the house without my mom driving them, and she worked so often that driving was often not possible. Besides, airports are really lame

I absolutely love driving and don’t like any part of flying, so the decision would be easy for me. Once the money is factored in it would be an absolute no-brainer. This also depends though on if you have a car. I wouldn’t really want my parents to have to drive 14 hours to pick me up from break.

depends on your savings i guess… i would most definetely drive though.
