College admission chances?

Hi I am a senior who has already applied to SDSU, UCLA, UCSD, CSUSM, and CSULB. I am also a candidate to the USNA and the NROTC scholarship. I scored 1680 on my SAT and a 23 ACT (comp.) and got a 4/5 on the AP US History Exam. I am a dedicated volunteer at a local hospital (1 year and continuing) and a varsity wrestler. I have receive multiple awards from school/sports like student/athlete of the month x2, academic excellence x2, and academic leadership etc. I am also in try top 10% of my class. My junior year I had the most AP classes I was able to take (3) and Honors Pre-Cal and got a 4.3 gpa. This year I have 4 AP classes and honors physics. I'm afraid i probably won't get accepted to any of these colleges because I am on the route to getting a D for the 1 semester course in AP GOVT. For the next semester I won't have any class because I took economy over the summer and got credit. Would this D, ruin my chances? I really don't want to go to a CC for a year or two, although it is economically smart. Could a 3-5 score on the AP GOVT Exam in May waiver that? Any advice would be helpful!!!!

Your SAT and ACT scores are too low to be competitive for USNA or NROTC.

What about admission into a CSU? And could u give me advice in regards to my D, and what I should do?

Retake the class next semester or take the non-AP Government class. Either way you need to replace that D or face the possibility of any acceptances being rescinded. I would talk to your Guidance counselor immediately. Since AP test scores will not be available until July, I would not take the chance and wait that long.

Strictly speaking your SAT and ACT scores do, in fact, meet the minimum requirements for the NROTC scholarship. The actual requirements are a minimum of 520 on the SAT math, and 530 on the verbal; while the minimum ACT is 21. Your scores are definitely below average for the scholarship, but if it is true that you are in the top 10% of your class and that you have solid varsity athletics and other extracurriculars then you have a decent chance.

The military knows that athletics, not academics, is the number one predictor of a successful military career. So, you definitely have a chance for an ROTC scholarship. However, it very unlikely that you would get a USNA appointment unless your varsity wrestling is so good that it overshadows your test scores. Nonetheless, you should continue. The only way to know for sure is to try.

I cannot speak for the Cal State admissions, but a quick look tells me that your test scores are about average for San Diego State University (which is one of the better branches). So, you definitely should apply to any CSUs that interest you.

Also take a look at some of the out of state universities with NROTC. I know that at least one of them, Xavier University of Louisiana, sometimes has had a difficult time filling its quota of NROTC scholarships. So, your test scores might not hurt you as much at Xavier as they could at other schools.

I see on one of your other posts that you are interested in becoming a doctor. Xavier University is an Historically Black College, and is the leading producer of African American medical school graduates. http://www.nola.com/education/index.ssf/2012/06/xavier_leads_the_nation_in_afr.html</a>
It is also a Catholic college, although only about 25% of students are Catholic.
