Hi, I’m out-of-state junior. I want to apply for UC Berkeley. However,my AP score wasn’t that well. Although I got a A’s in my ap class, my ap scores was around 2 to 3. I took AP chinese and AP world history last year and got a 5 and 2 on it. This year I took AP bio, AP language and AP U.S history. The score hasn’t come out yet and I’m pretty sure it’s not going to be in 4,5 ranges. So, I want to ask, will having bad ap grades affect my chance to be accept in to Berkeley?
Can you afford the OOS cost? You do realize there’s no FA for OOS students.
AP scores are used for college credit not for admission purposes so it should not impact your chances. However, it may show admissions that your school has grade inflation in that you had a high grade in the class but did not learn the material well enough to do well on the exam.
$60,000/year time 4. Can your family pay this since there is no aid for OOS students.
Where are your SAT and or your ACT scores? What’s your GPA?
As above, can you afford the UC’s?
@TomSrOfBoston @GMTplus7 I find a summer job this summer. I’m also trying to apply as much scholarship as possible. Hopefully it will reduce some cost. Thank you for the information
@Gumbymom I think I’m a weird case. most of my friend did pretty well on the AP exam. Thank you for the information
@aunt bea My GPA is 3.75 UW and 30 on the ACT. I haven’t take the SAT yet, but I will say around 1370-1450 Thank you for your reply!
Check the Common Data Set for Berkeley so that you can see where you are compared to previously admitted students. I don’t think your GPA and test scores will get you in. http://opa.berkeley.edu/sites/default/files/uc_berkeley_cds_2015-16_4-28-2016.pdf
It’s $55k per year and the UCs don’t give scholarships to OOS students? You’ll receive federal aid of you qualify for it but it’s usually not a decent amount to cover your fees and tuition.
@Chickennugget220 AP Scores shouldn’t affect your admission to Berkeley too much, but 2’s and 3’s will raise red flags if you send them in. Colleges don’t care too much about AP scores so long as they’re not terrible - they won’t get you in, but in most cases they won’t keep you out either.
Most 3.75/30 ACT in-state students are rejected. Seeing as you’re out-of-state, I think admission will be very tough unless you can raise your ACT score significantly or score around a 1500+ on that SAT you’re about to take. What are your extracurriculars like, and which major are you applying for?
There is little availability of sizable external scholarships that are dependably renewable for 4 years.
It doesn’t make sense for FA-needing students to apply to UC schools from OOS. What makes more sense is applying to schools where you are eligible for FA or qualify for merit aid.
Get over the UC Berkeley worship. There are more attractive alternatives.
