Looks like that 38% admit rate may drop to 35% this year.

this is very good news indeed.

Whew. Northwestern had an 18% increase, so 8% is a bit of a relief.

Whew. Northwestern had an 18% increase, so 8% is a bit of a relief. I hope I'm in that 35%!

What attracts you to Northwestern, honied_dreams?

so it's 2400/7335 = 33% for regular decision!

oh wait it will be something like 2400/8335 = 29% because of deferred students from early action

Ouch. They may also plan to pull from their waitlist - I think they were a little over-enrolled last year.

OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what will we do?

Noooo all my favorite and top choice schools have major increases :(
So far, none of the schools that I've applied to, had a decline of application number... well, as far as I know.

dannonwater, yeah chicago and northwestern are like, total polar opposite schools right? I applied to both because strangely, I love them both.

DannonWater--Northwestern is definitely not my top choice (Chicago would take that place, then Barnard), but I have practically grown up around Evanston (my mother will be living there by this Sunday) and Northwestern, so my connection to it may make it easier for me to get in (but probably not).

NoFX- actually, they are similar in quite a few ways. I was just wondering what he liked about it there. I know a few people who enjoy both schools.

honied- A NORTHSIDE CUBS FAN? oh no. this cannot do.
greetings from the southside- home of the SOX & Uchicago.

I'm not a Cubs fan. I detest sports in general. I'm definitely not devoted to the North Shore; more like home of rich snobs from places like Lake Forest. I'll be living and working downtown this summer...

Oh wow, where at?

I don't know where yet. My mother just moved to Chicago to work at Whole Foods, and my whole family's going to find an apartment when I graduate.

Heart of the rich snobby neighborhoods- have fun! At least a cup pf coffee isnt' hard to find.

Where did you get the 2400 out of 8335 number?
How do you find out how many students they admit total? Has Chicago publicized this number? You can't use the size of the freshman class; Chicago will accept more than that because some people will turn it down and they still need to fill all the seats...

They have publicized that they admit 3,600 each year.

No, that's way too high. 3600/8335 = 43 percent.

I've forgotten exactly how I calculated it, but the RD admit rate this year should be between 35 and 37 percent. EA was 38.5%.

about 1200 from EA 2400 from RD

so total 3600 admits

and 1200 will go to uchicago

http://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/level3.asp?id=377

"Where did you get the 2400 out of 8335 number?

I didn't come up with the number, but I think the poster got it about right. I believe that about 1200 were accepted EA. 3600 (historical number accepted overall, from the UChicago website) - 1200 = 2400. The denominator is, I believe, RD applications + deferred EA's.
