College advise for artist with many indie art interests

Hi,
Everyone I would be interested in attending film school or an art institute. However, I also feel like I am just starting out as an artist( I lack the tech skills) and want to learn the art history, analysis and creation before specialising on an specific medium.I am more interested in independent works(in music: Wire and GBV)and foreign art, storytelling(manga like: Monster)I would like guidance from my teachers and the opportunity to learn and explore different mediums. What school could suit best?

In addition, I would like help organising myself(slight ADD.) In terms of academics I think I am doing alright,(scored 30pts on the IB and achieved 5 in all my HL subjects.)

Thanks

Future kid…what year are you? Where do you live? east coast, west, middle? Where do you want to go to school - city or no?
If you have time/money look at taking a pre-college summer program next year at one of the art schools.
Carry a sketchbook with you. Draw from observation, from your imagination, collage, write your ideas down. Go see as much art as you can. Take books out of the library. Find the artists that inspire you. Watch as many films as you can (good ones!!)

It is pretty much what I am doing. I just graduated high school, I live outside the USA. I think I prefer to go to a rural campus rather than a city. I will buy a sketchbook. There are WAY too many books too read I think I am starting out with japanese writers as I like eastern storytelling. I watched the commitments film the other day but felt asleep. I don’t like fielding that much I like whitest kids u know, but haven’t gotten too much into monty python.

PS:Wire is awesome.

good info

Off the top of my head I am thinking Cal Arts - it is in the suburbs of LA - kind of in its own world over there. Very conceptual and experimental.

A little more mainstream but lots of good stuff going on there - Ringling College of Art and Design

Also - SUNY college at Purchase

What about Canada? - Novia Scotia of Art and Design

I’m sure more people will chime in. If I think of anything else I’ll let you know. I have a friend who raves about Whitest Kids You Know - I will have to give it a try.

Thanks man. I wanted to study literature but I seems very lonely. What I really want is to be surrounded with creative people and from then on figure something out. I am just very eager to interact with other artists/writers. Once I worked with some artists doing cards and I told them what to draw and we exchanged many ideas, I was very happy as we shared many interests (like our mutual love for Digimon.)

I think SMFA may be be good fit because it has a dual degree program and it has a super flexible program (kinda like a make your own major kind of thing).

Also, I’m just gonna go ahead and suggest Pratt Institute because I see you’re interested in writing and Pratt has a Creative Writing major that people (including art majors) may minor in. Although it’s NYC, it is also in a suburban like setting, I guess.

These are all suggested under the impression that you can afford them of course.
