College Algebra and Analytical geometry at Barnard?

I’m attending Barnard in the fall and I know I will have to take Calculus my first year because I’m thinking about doing pre-med.

HOWEVER: my high school had a VERY WEAK math department and I know i’m not ready to take Calc, so I’m taking “College Algebra and Analytical Geometry” my first semester, which is geared at students with little math experience.

Has anyone taken this class at Barnard?? What is it like? Will it prepare me for Calculus for the the second semester?

Oh philosophy is totally fulfilling my “mathy” 9 ways of knowing requirement. No way am I ever taking math again. Intro to logic, here I come!

Beware, figureskater: my D said much the same thing. Ended up falling in love with a particular science discipline and taking EXTRA math and things like organic chem (EXTRA classes…for FUN!!!). Barnard can be sneaky like that. :)

but i have to take it for calc. i MUST be a pathologist

I haven’t looked at the course description but analytical geometry should be a good intro to calculus. Calculus is the study of change – remember Newton invented it to describe the orbits of celestial bodies. You are likely to have some exposure to concepts covered in analytical geometry that will help in calculus.
