In my first year of college I found out I had a thyroid cancer after I got the operation and the treatments and came back to the 2 semester and everything went fine until the last exams and I cried every hour and I couldn’t concentrate and study. After that I came home and went to a doctor and he told me that my hormons are really low and it’s take 3, 5 years to put them on accept levels. This problem make study really hard, I have a bad memory I can’t concentrate and sleepy all the time.
My question is if anyone had/have the same problem and what you do to overcame?
You might need to find another doctor and get a second opinion. It seems that perhaps your medication might not be adjusted correctly. You should also consider a medical withdrawal if your grades are poor. Please get a second medical opinion and speak to an academic advisor at your college. Don’t delay.
Are you still in college? If so, go to your Dean of Students right away and discuss it with them. You may get accomodations or you may need to take time off school.
If not, then maybe see another endocrinologist…your symptoms are consistent with low thyroid
“Many patients with hypothyroidism complain of mental “fogginess” and trouble concentrating. The way this mental fogginess presents itself varies by person.”
You may have to wait until your thyroid levels are higher before you return to college full time.
Maybe you get a job, or take 1 -2 classes at community college or go on disability/social security.
My problem with stop with college for the tyroid levels get high is that I feel that I am right know so behind in life my 21 and in the first year of college. If everything go right from know just when I am 24 25 is when I finish college
Finishing college is not a race! I will graduate at 25 but if not then it is not the end of the world. I started college in the spring instead of fall when I was 19 and took ten credit hours but I still did badly because I withdrew from one class and failed another due to a minor illness and adjusting to college, then a year later in the spring I withdralwed from another due to the loss of my grandma, and it also is taking me longer because I had to take some remedial math courses that I need for my STEM major. I also almost was on academic probation because I only had a 2.1 or 2.2 GPA after my first semester and I have got it up to a 2.8 but I’m confident after three semesters I will get it up to a 3.0.
I’m taking a lighter load this semester due to the depression I still have.
Don’t let starting college at 21, a health issue, or anything else discourage you because life is not a race. Age doesn’t matter.
Right now try to get as much suppport as you can right now from family, friends, etc.
Both your mental and physical health come first!
I cannot stress what the other posters have said.
