Which is a better education, ASU Barrett Honors, Alabama Honors or Cal Poly SLO?

For what major?

Pre Med, chemistry.

I’m a big fan of Cal Poly. My son is an alum from out of state. They have small classes, good instruction, and it’s in an idyllic location. All that said, the honors colleges at AL and AZ are designed to replicate that experience. Plus those schools offer experiences associated with big time athletics that CP doesn’t. Pre Med is all about high grades and saving money. What are the prices of each?

Over the 4 years we anticipate Cal Poly to be the most expensive, then ASU and Alabama totally inexpensive. Waiting to hear on more schools but anticipate those to be way pricier. Great input on the high grades and save money. I’m curious if I can find the medical school admittance records for pre med kids at Barrett vs Cal Poly.

I would call each school and ask. They should have those statistics. You have plenty of time. A student could get a suitable education at any of those schools. Regardless of who is footing the bill, for pre-med, I’m a big fan of watching costs. Medical school is expensive. I have colleagues that were paying off their education well into their 40s.

I think you can’t say - which is better. I think you say - which is better for you.

You can get a fine education at any school, these three included.

Bama has the biggest Honors program in the country - but many don’t take it seriously (my son, for example), who plans to drop it next year second semester - it gets you priority registration. He’s not a fan of humanities. But for those who take it seriously, it’s wonderful. For aspiring doctors, they have the Mccullough Scholars.

ASU Barrett - never heard a bad word. It’s my grad alma mater. It’s a huge college and more suburban…a nicer area than Tuscalosa.

Cal Poly, as @eyemgh attests, is obviously a wonderful school as well.

Cost does matter - and many do see the allure of Bama…I assume you got the $28K a year. The Honors dorm - Ridgecres, is quiet and nice.

No doubt - if your son wants a wonderful and serious experience, he can find it at any of the three…but what’s the most comfortable and what can you afford…or what do you want to afford. Good luck.
