College Clothes

I always don my Wisconsin stuff with pride. Actually, everyone from the millionaire surgeon (who actually attended the school) to the bum on the street wears Wisconsin stuff just because it’s the regional school and the hometown team when it comes to sports. No harm, no foul is the way I see it.

I mean, come on man, how could anyone dislike the Badgers? ;)

Generally, when I see a kid walking around in school apparel, I judge based on their personality how they mean it. When I see some pretentious snob walking around in UChicago shirts (where she was denied btw), I chuckle to myself. When someone just happens to own a Stanford shirt for the hell of it, I don’t really care either way.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with school spirit, when you actually have school spirit and don’t just want to seem intelligent. Last year in the NCAA basketball championships everyone at my school was wearing UConn stuff. Granted UConn is not the best school, but most of us were rooting for UConn so we all wore the stuff. If you really like the school, go ahead and wear your stuff. But I still don’t like when a kid wears a Stanford shirt to give off the impression that he has the stuff to get into Stanford. I don’t plan on buying anything because if (when) I get rejected from schools I will be mix of sad and angry, and the last thing I would want to see is a shirt from my dream school that I got rejected from.

Sometimes its a sports thing or a family thing. I’m a BC basketball fan and I have a Boston College jacket and a ton of shirts, but there’s no way I’m going there. I just like the team, and it’s true for a lot of people in my school…there’s a big focus on college sports, and some people wear clothes from schools their siblings go to. I also have stuff from Wellesley and Yale because I went to summer camp there, but it doesn’t mean I plan to go to either, there’s no way I would get in or want to.

I just don’t know what I’ll do with the superfluous sweatshirts I have once I decide the school I’m going to. I mean, if I’m going to Barnard, it might be a little weird to wear an NYU shirt to school, right? I guess I’ll just donate them.

Might burn my Tufts sweatshirt if rejected though. Kidding… sort of.
