College clothes

Some people on this forum are saying not to wear American Eagle, Hollister, Abercrombie, etc. in college. Do people really not wear that in college? I've been to college campuses and seen people still wear that from high school, but I've seen some posts on here that say differently.

Depends on the college. I don’t think people really care, at some places.

I go to Holy Cross, Urban Dictionary calls it a J. Crew catalogue! LOL

I just wear jeans and a shirt.

Just be you. Who cares what people think? (If they are so focused on that stuff, they need to fix priorities!)

Just wear whatever you want. My experience is nobody minds that much what brands other people are wearing.

Yeah, it doesn’t really matter. I just wanted to know what all the feelings against that stuff on CC were about. Maybe it’s just certain people on here.

Actually, I still like American Eagle and not Hollister and A&F. I feel like people look like tools with those brand name logos all over their clothes…so if you can avoid wearing graphic tees from there I guess you’re cool? I don’t see anything wrong with wearing clothes from those places above mentioned. However, in college you definitely don’t want to look like a middle schooler LOL .

This is my new favorite website! you should definitely check it out ! I think you’ll find it very helpful…and find tons of fashion inspiration (you can search stuff on there too… [College Fashion - Tips, trends and style for students.](http://www.collegefashion.net/)

Honestly, I think in college nobody will care …

P.S. I know you’re super excited/anxious but seriously…chill out! lmao.

Go to gap, jcrew. Pick up a few polos button downs chinos khakis 2 jeans and you’re set

Yeah, I still like AE too, plus Hollister and some Abercrombie, but I don’t have a lot of it where the name is all over it. I have like 5 pairs of jeans from Hollister and stuff like that, as well as some t-shirts and hoodies with the name on it.

As an international student, I have no idea what you guys are talking about.

I hope people don’t laugh at me.

Yeah no one cares. If you had to group me, I guess you could say I dress “urban-y” or “hipster -y” I wear skinny jeans, graphic tees, converse, nikes, etc. I shop at urban outfitters, h&m, hottopic, journey’s, etc. Idgaf what anyone thinks or says. If people have a problem with what I wear, they could start buying my clothes, until then they shove it where the sun don’t shine. ;)

The only way you’ll look like a tool is if everything you wear has Hollister or Aeropostale or something similar on it. My advice:Variety. Have a little bit of everything. Thats what I personally do. In the end people that don’t know you won’t care what you wear cause they’ll probably never see you again. Don’t worry about it and wear whatever you want.

I’m starting Miami University in the fall which is known as J. Crew U and where it’s rep is popped collars and pearls and spray tans. 1. I’m black, so spray tanning is out the window. 2. Popped collars are ******-y on and off the Jersey Shore. 3. Pearls? What am I, 90?

I’m gonna wear what I normally wear any other day of the week. I’m gonna buy a few more outfits like non-denim pants and some cute shirts, but I don’t wear name brand clothes because having someone else’s name stitched in the tag of my shirt or pants doesn’t justify the hike in prices. But I’m cheap, so…

Diversifying your wardrobe to include things that are actually fashionable rather than generic (e.g. Aeropostale, Hollister, Abercrombie etc.; simply buying a shirt with a brand name on it does not make one look fashionable) is a good idea. One can’t dress like a high school prep forever.

Wear whatever you want to wear. If people are going to judge you based on you wearing a hollister t-shirt than I guess they weren’t worth being friends/acquaintances to begin with.

Depending on the type of uni/college you go to 99% of the people do not care what you wear. Some of the preppy colleges where only rich kids attend then yeah people may make comments, but it really isn’t a big deal.

Also buy what you can afford, don’t go out trying to buy clothes that aren’t within your budget or wear clothes that just really don’t represent you and make you feel like you’re playing dress up or to look like someone else. Just wear what you feel is appropriate.

Oh don’t worry, I’ll wear what I want to wear. I have already packed up my clothes. It’s not like I’m asking this and then going out shopping! I care somewhat, but I also wear what I like.

I was just asking because of the Hollister-Aero-AE-A&F hate/dislike/disapproval I’ve seen on some other thread as off-topic parts of those.

My thing is, people care, the real question is. Do you care if they care?

You can always wear me. I never go outta style.

^Where I live no one cares…so I wouldn’t say “everyone” cares… but then again I live in FL. It’s always too hot so most people wear whatever with a pair of flip flops. Personally I like to dress nice and I never wear flip flops, but I don’t judge those that choose not to dress up a bit.
It probably comes down to the area you live and the type of uni it is.
Also I find that funny that people warned the OP about not wearing specific brands of clothing.

Oh my. How many trucks did you fill?

^Ha ha, so funny.;)

Well, yes, I know you’re being sarcastic, but I think it’s funny. It’s not like I’m trying to bully you or anything…

Stratusfaction, LOL, you sound like my D2. I have to say, however, the people who work at Hot Topic in my area (South Florida) are very nice, but I can’t get past the appearance of some of them.

As for the type of clothes one wears at college- I imagine that would depend on where you attend school. If anyone wears a long-sleeve button-down shirt to class in August and September in Florida they will sweat their butt off.
