Hi, I am just starting the college application process, and I have a few questions regarding the common app supplements for colleges. These might seem like "duh" questions, but I really have no idea, and my parents never went through this process before.

1) Is there a way to type on the supplements? Most of the time, I open a college's supplement on its website, it's in pdf and I can't type on it.
2) Do most people handwrite their supplements & then mail them in?
3) I'm confused... are college supplements also on the common app website?
4) If I'm going to be mailing "additional materials" to colleges anyway, is there a point to filling out the supplements online?
5) Can I type on the supplements, print them out, then mail them?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

1) If you add a college to your “My Colleges” list on the common app, you can complete their supplements on the common app website and type all over that sucker.
2) Handwriting is not preferred because it’s harder to read and admissions officers have to switch from computer to a desk to read your application and it’s really just a hassle.
3) Yepp they are
4) Yes, there is a point. See #2
5) I don’t see why it’s such an inconvienance for you to do it online? lol. The purpose of the common app is to make it convienant for both you AND the admissions officers. Your entire application will be on the common app so it’d be easier for them to have your supplement essays there too. Mailing surplus papers that could easily be neatly organized on your common app folder could be frustrating for them, but it’s not prohibited.

Thanks so much, Elbeeen! I just didn’t realize that I could just type out everything online. I thought that I would have to print out everthing, so thank you so much for clarifying this!
