College confidential kills all my hopes and dreams

This forum:

 1. Depressed me because I found out who I really am competing against.
 2. Gave me more motivation.

Both positive and negative.

But then I also frequent another site called Smogon University. It’s a Pokemon forum. Yet, it makes you feel you have an IQ of 10.

Yeah when I see everone else’s stats I get really depressed and wish I would have done better but I have to remind myself that
1: Im going to a specialized college and those aren’t usually prestigous
2: My career choice doesn’t care to much about college choice but more of who you are and your expierence

But CC encouraged me to force my children to be perfect scholars with excellent EC’s. 

Nah. Your hopes and dreams were already dead in the first place. CC makes you create new hopes and dreams, just to a much lower standard.

Me too. I just got my SAT score up from a 1910 to a 2140. And I’m slightly disappointed. lol.

you know, saying that the people on chance forums aren’t that stellar really doesn’t make me feel any better ;P

haha yes, CC does make me feel like a failure sometimes.

But every so often you see someone (like one out of maybe…ten? twenty? threads. I don’t haunt chances much because it’s pointless) who is all like “OHEMGEE I ONLY HAVE TWO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AND HAVE ONLY PLAYED IN CARNEGIE HALL ONCE AND IT WAS WITH A LARGE GROUP AND MY SAT IS ONLY 2320 CAN I POSSIBLY GET INTO MY STATE FLAGSHIP, LET ALONE HPYMS!!!”

And I’m all like…trololol? Is this a joke? Or are you one of those people who’s going to be rejected from all top colleges for having No Common Sense whatsoever?

They also never say HYPMS in the normal order.

^^ college confidential needs a like button.

I feel that people in the Chance Me threads:
a) just want to brag about how great they are
b) are just ■■■■■■
c) are liars
d) need to realize that the Ivies are not the only good schools out there and stop being so obsessive about their adimssions chances.

Take your pick.

^ all of the above!

but I think d) is the most important…there are schools much better out there than ivies…

^ …no. At the same level? Yes.

Nah, the actual decisions threads are so much more depressing. Especially the rejection ones where you’re like, okay, if that person got rejected with those stats, w-w-what’s going to happen to people like me?

I’ve found that the chance threads are divided about evenly between complete no chance desperates and covertly gloating overachievers lol.

I really, really do not appreciate the IVY LEAGUE OR BUST attitude of a lot of the posters here.

^^ lol actually i see it the other way around. If i saw someone w/ perfect stats get rejected, then there might still be hope for me :D

^ glass half full FTW! :D

I think the oddest thing is that it seems like every engineer hopeful high school students feels they need MIT or an Ivy when really state schools are usually really good and usually better than the ivy in engineering and other STEM fields. I mean, UT is just 1 above Cornell in engineering ranking for those that love those USnews rankings (like 8 and 9 or 9 and 10 last time I checked but UT was above Cornell).

I think looking for a school for engineering one should just check for ABET approval, internships, research if they’re into that or want graduate school, and the career center/job placement. Otherwise if it has all that just look at the schools that’ll give you the most money and one that you think you’ll be happiest at.

i dont even count cornell as an ivy.
its like, the place where the kids who are really desperate to go to an ivy but got rejected from everywhere else go.
no offense if you go there :p

that’s kinda harsh, it’s still a good place and ivyish though it’s not for me

I don’t think any ivy is for me but out of all of them cornell is the one for engineering

i guess it is harsh. its a good college, but i wouldnt really spend that much money to go there.
anyway, i revoke my statement
