“My first piece of advice is to avoid the addiction of College Confidential and other similar sites. I assure you, as much as the alumni from 1954 or that mom who posts 100 times a day claim to know, they are not current freshmen and simply parrot what they hear from other sources that do not know much either.”

I lol’ed at the mom part.

Haha that’s funny!

Oh dear, I had to check to make sure I wasn’t the clueless mom who posted 100 times per day.

;)

But on a serious note, how is this advice for perspective students? The advice I’d give is to do well on your SAT, take that ACT if you can do better, get good grades, and take the most rigorous courses your high school offers.

I disagree. The parents here on College Confidential have been a wealth of good information for me!

^^^Thank you, TacomaJoe! <3 <3 :)

This article is for high students who have been accepted to Cal Poly and how they should go about making their decision.

I also do not agree with their view of CC because there is a lot of valuable information here.Archives worth!

i love the CC parents!!

^^

:) And, you know, many of us current freshmen parents have a lot of questions, too. Some of them are answered here by students and parents who have been around for awhile. But, Cal Poly also has an excellent Parent Program with VERY knowledgable and dedicated parents who are always available to answer the newbies’ questions. They have a couple of Facebook pages, including a little chat-type group where parents can post with questions or just to talk about something regarding their own student or the school, in general. It’s very helpful.

When I attended the Open House last year in April, the school had a special Parents’ Coffee set up one evening in Chumash Auditorium while the admitted students had their own little party. I was so impressed by the HUGE Parent Program and all the wonderful moms and dads who were up on stage making us feel at home. There was also an equally large WOW leader group of kids who were there alongside the parents. They later filtered through the crowd and we had a couple of students and parents join us at our table for a bit. It really gave us a sense of feeling like these people are there for us to help the transition from h.s. to college. And, it’s nice to know that the Cal Poly Parent Program continues to be there for support throughout the year.

CC has been a wonderful way for me to learn and pass information onto my son. I have learned a lot from parents and students and I have made some very good friends here too! I agree that it can be a bit addicting though and although I probably post something everyday, I have never posted 100 times in a day! Lol!
