probably faked. i knew a kid once generated fake harvard acceptance emails that looked so real, displaying the correct email address from harvard & everything, and then you had to look into the actual email code or something to realize it was fake & sent from another email address

...this is also how phishing probably works

How lucky that you were able to talk to your GC this week, even though it's the holidays; it must be somewhat comforting to know that he/she also thinks this is odd.

I agree with Menloparkmom's suggestions: Have your counselor call the Fordham Admissions Director to confirm he/she sent it and, if it's real, to ask why and to tell him that it concerns you greatly.

Unfortunately you may not be able to have this happen for another 10 days, until the holidays are over.

Did anyone else who posted on the same thread you did receive an e-mail from the Admissions Director? Or just you?

Edit: Are you going to Fordham, or are you going to George Wash U? I think I saw in your old posts that you were accepted ED at GW with great aid. Yes??

this happened about 2 weeks ago..and i just finally decided to put the whole thing on here as to put a heads up to others. I did reply to the emails; i was nice in the reply and tried to clarify things. However in his second email to me, he did not seem to acknowledge what i had said, but only reiterated what he already told me. I have not discussed how i would like my counselor to handle the situation, but I decided to put off that until after the holiday break. I also do not want to burn any potential bridges.

I am happily attending George Washington University as an ED acceptance. I will not be attending Fordham.

And I am assuming i am the only one from the thread who received an email, but i cannot be certain.

What i have discovered is that there are users on here (i have a very strong idea as to which user "reported" me to the admissions director) that work cllosely with a college or university where they can get "scoops" on students

I never applied early ... but I thought since EA is not binding, there's no harm, right, as long as you apply ED only to one place? Or does Fordham have restrictive early action?

That was rude of the person. :( Even if you had written something inappropriate (which I'm sure you have not), this is kind of a venting site for kids to discuss college among themselves. I'm not saying that they shouldn't be reading what kids post but that was rude to assume so much about you personally. Congrats on George Washington btw! :)

I'm surprised he emailed you, but I'm not surprised he was reading CC. I know of at least 2 adcom members who regularly read their school's board and a few post here. Lots of kids here give enough info to be identifiable by anyone who has read their application. This is a good and valid heads up.

I agree with this. I wouldn't be surprised if the email were a spoof. But in any case, college admissions officers can and probably are reading this site, and it is probably a bad idea to make yourself identifiable unless you're comfortable with every post you've ever made going to any college you want to apply to.

Now, I also think it's entirely unethical for sites like these to influence admissions decisions in the slightest. There is no way to confirm whether I am actually the person I pretend to be, and there is tons of room to take comments out of context. But that's the ideal. The fact is, things you post online can and do influence admissions.

just atta curiousity, i mean i get it, its great ur warning us (if u r in fact telling the truth) but why would u warn us on the same site that he caught u on...dont u think HE could look at ur post history? Saying that he wuzz "very arrogant and sarcastic" doesn't help your cause.. i mean look idk where else u COULD warn us but nonetheless you could get another email from the dude b/c of THIS post. What if the dude revoked your acceptance? Idk... just a thought.

Interesting. Thanks. This is exactly why I'm being paranoid about what I'm posting here. Wouldn't want teh adcoms getting a bad impression of me.

Congrats on your ED1 to GWU.
I am actaully a GWU applicant as well. However, I am EDII.
Haha you mind PM me your resume (Like GPA and ACT/SAT).
Getting kinda nervous because my resume is not that great~
PM me if you can though
Thanks

GWUapplicant is probably a GWU official trying to find out about PatM...seriously...GWUapplicant? That name is too shallow. Add the New Member Status and join Date of Dec 2008....
