College Confidential virtuoso has a question.

I took an accelerated (I think it was only ten weeks) Sociology class. I got my grade for the class a few days ago. (An "A" obviously :) )

In any case, is it even worth trying to update the grade on my Berkeley updates? Or, the regular UC one for that matter? It's a prerequisite for my major.

I don't know if I'd be ****ing them off for adding stuff so late.

Also, I applied as a psych major but am almost nearly certain I am going to change to a sociology major, assuming I get in. Would it be totally retarded to mention anything about my plans to change to a sociology major in that little "additional comments" box at the end? I feel like sociology is FAR less competitive than psychology, or I wouldn't utter a word.

DO NOT mention changing your major lol. You’ll get in man. You can easily change your major at CALSO even if socio is impacted. Mentioning that you want to change your major would only make you look uncertain and your app/PS’s questionnable. Trust in ya boy. lol. Don’t touch the UC Berkeley app update either; I believe I read that adding anything post-4/30 could jeopardize your app.

haha of course you’re the first one to reply to this, seeing how it’s two in the morning.

They probably won’t see the update in time…but updating it doesn’t hurt you…I asked UCLA if updating my app for winter quarter grades was a good idea (i am a uc-uc transfer applicant)…the lady said they most probably would see the update but they wouldn’t use it in my decision…this was a while back…maybe like 3 weeks back…so i doubt they will see your update…but it isn’t a bad thing to update them…remember, if you don’t get in, the A you got will come in handy for an appeal
oh and don’t mention the major change lol

:) no problem, Maclen. lol. Glad to see you’re up too.

up and creeping hard around college confidential. I saw in one of your posts that the acceptance rate into Berkeley’s psych is 18%? Are you serious! Getting into Cornell is easier than that!

oh crap…well I hope I didn’t f-up my app then…I took an accelerated calc class this semester and updated my Cal app a couple of days ago. I figured an A would look nice especially since the class is technically a semester long class. Do you guys think I screwed it up? Should I just have left it alone?

I don’t think adding anything can be detrimental. I might call tomorrow and ask if I should add it.

Don’t fret.

Wouldn’t adding good news to your app be a good thing? :)

I thought so, but it’s after the deadline so who knows…Riley can call tomorrow and inform us all :)

@ Maclen: Alas, my friend, I applied to Berkeley’s philosophy! But how can a fantastic school like Berkeley allow one to switch so easily into such an impacted major, you ask? Well, for whatever reason, as long as I have a 3.2+ (I do) and major prereqs done/IP (I do) then I’m good to go.

I’m innovative when it comes to education. If psych gets in 18% of the time, and phil gets in 45%+…and I can easily switch majors once I’m there, it became a no-brainer what I was going to apply for in my app.

that is disconcerting, to say the least.

Indeed… lol. I’ll be taking your Psych spot when you swap to sociology.

out of curiosity, where did you find that statistic? Is it just the one that lumps all of the social sciences together as 18%? You’ve gotten me worried.

No no no. I got it from UC statfinder. Psych major is accepted 18% of the time according to statfinder…I can’t remember if that is just CCC kids -> UCB or ALL students to UCB. You can crunch the numbers there and see for yourself if you want.

I believe for phil on statfinder, the average GPA for phil is anywhere from 45-51%! I did my research on this stuff hardcore b4 applying.

You have a 4.0 though; you should be fine. I really don’t foresee any legitimate reason why you could be rejected. In fact, I’d be surprised if you didn’t get Regents.

Well that is always nice to hear. I looked it up on here

[University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/library/tables/table_61-2008.aspx)

it’s actually 23.5%! I feel more than 5% better about myself!

According to this, it says Philosophy/Religious Studies is 57.9%! Jeez.

Oooh ok. I see. That’s interesting. What’s the difference between ALL admits and fall admits though? I ran your table and it came out to 23.5%; you’re right. However, I then swapped ALL times as you had for Fall instead, and it came out to 17.9% :(.
