My kid earned some college credits at University of Nevada - Reno during a couple of summers in high school during a summer program on campus there. The college does issue official transcripts for the classes. She provided those transcripts to her undergraduate college when applying for admission. Does she need to/should she send provide transcripts (official, of course) to graduate schools as well? They weren’t dual enrollment, this is something completely outside of her high school experience, and the college treated them like “real college classes”. Her grades were good, there is no reason not to send them except the minor additional hassle. I just wonder if grad schools would expect them.
Probably. I would ask each department to be sure - some say all institutions attended and really mean it; others don’t care about classes completed in high school.
Were these true college credits (a non-high school undergraduate could have taken the class), or were they summer enrichment classes specifically for hich schoolers that didn’t generate college credits for anyone (think of continuing education credits here)? If they were real college classes, then your kid has a real college transcript and will need to be prepared to send it whenever all transcripts are required. If they were more along the continuing ed line, then there is no need to send a transcript.
They are real college classes with an actual college transcript. I think she will send the official transcripts in.
Depends on the grad program. When my D applied, some colleges wanted all transcripts, while others only wanted a transcript from the BS/BA granting institution, while others wanted transcripts from any college for which the student was full time for at least one year.
btw: some colleges wanted official transcripts at the time of the application, while others said to send official copies only after acceptance.
I had a similar situation when applying for PhD programs. I didn’t initially send that transcript to any of the schools I applied to (all of which only required unofficial transcripts for the application. My undergrad application showed the course on it.) One place got in contact and asked for an unofficial transcript for that class from HS (which turned out to be a huge pain to get my hands on). For the program I will be attending in the fall, they requested an official transcript for that after acceptance, since there was no grade listed for it on my undergrad transcript. I got in everywhere, so I don’t think neglecting that single HS college class + transcript hurt me.
That’s my personal experience, just for perspective. But I agree that getting in contact with the department/admissions people is the best bet for clarification.
Her grades were all As in the classes (better than some of her college grades). So it is probably to her benefit if they want them.
