I’ve been accepted to both schools as a transfer student in biochemistry but I can’t decide where to go. My plan is to get a masters in and go into pharmaceutical industry, so maybe I shouldn’t freak out about undergrad that much since its just two years.
UCSD:
+UCSD, for my particular area of interest, is definitely ranked better and has more opportunities in terms of research
+I’ve heard good things about the village transfer housing, which is where I’d go
+weather and area is phenomenal
+I’m 21 and can go out in the city/ plus I hear the gay scene is really good in certain areas
-I hear the campus is socially dead, and the student body studies all the time (campus life is important to me)
-conceivably more difficult to get a good GPA
-campus seems huge, and inactive
-triton eye
UC Davis:
+Great education with a better study/social balance
+cheaper rent
+my ticket out of socal and to experience new things far away from home
+college town is cute and different
+student body seems very friendly/active
-small town can get boring
-surrounded by farms
-I don’t know if I can get the same level of research opportunities here
-56% girls and no gay scene nearby (unless I go to San Fran)
I am leaning towards UCSD, but I think its because more of my family and friends push me that way. My only experience of Davis was a tour in the winter where it was raining so hard we barely got through it. Although I did like the campus and the people I talked to were great. These schools are both so appealing to me, but for different reasons. I am very scared of the socially dead rumor. I know that I’ll be able to have fun at UCSD because of the city, but I want to be able to have fun through the campus as as well.
What do you think? Help this decision is so hard.
