Am I crazy or do the UC admissions (and others for that matter) not take into account the difficulty or level of the college you're coming from, that they simply way the GPA for what the number is? I mean shouldn't there be some sort of weight being applied, some sort of regulatory body that does statistics for colleges or something. I know for my local community college district of Grossmont-Cuyamaca is like night and day. Both students and teachers at Grossmont agree that Cuyamaca's courses are like remedial in comparison. To me it just seems logical that harder courses that more adequately prepare you should have a stronger weight compared to others. Am I wrong? I got in and am going to the UCLA like I wanted too and I went to Grossmont. It's just that it seems silly for others that aimed for greater challenge or preparation to get the short end of the stick.

I agree. I see people doing majors like comp sci etc… and I am doing humanities, and no offence ot my fellow humanities majors, but science is sooo hard, at least for me. Honestly, I don’t feel I deserve my acceptance to ucla…

I agree, @koifishy. But that would be easier said than done, and community colleges aren’t supposed to be too different in terms of difficulty level, at least in theory, anyway. I don’t think the system in place is grossly unfair or even a little unfair, but it could always be improved upon.

Congrats to getting in, by the way.

Well, the admissions officers decide if you deserve a spot, and I’m inclined to have faith in their judgment. If they think you deserve to go to UCLA, so do I!

haha, thanks @Cayton

Yeah I agree they aren’t suppose to but I’ve also tutored friends and such from out of state colleges and some other in state ones and comparing what they are learning or what material they have on tests comparable to the “same” course at others. I find a fairly apparent difference. Not to mention when you throw in curves or what instructors allow on tests and such at that point it really goes wack lol.

Thanks.

As well there is rate my professor and this site as well as schools having to go through accreditation. I think it wouldn’t be to unreasonable or unheard of to get a system in place in the next couple years. Heck maybe I’ll try doing it, lol.
