college dilemma(about transferring to UCI)

hey guys,
i just finished my freshman year in college. i attend UOP, University of the Pacific, which is located in Stockton, CA. its not a bad school. its a private college. very old and small. it has less students then my highschool... about 4,000 undergrads, my highschool had about 4,400 students. my major is mechanical engineering.

my dilemma started during senior year in HS, when i was deciding what college to attend. i really wanted to go to UC Irvine, but it was too far away (about 6 hours) from me. i know people go to colleges far away, but i didnt want to be so far away incase i needed to go home often. uop was only an hour away so i decide to go there.

now that a year has passed, im starting to really regret not going to irvine. Private colleges are different. although i think i can suck it up and continue through at UOP for the next 4 years, i dont wanna go through the rest of my life regretting not going to the college i actually wanted to.

my mind is just so torn apart right now. if i could directly transfer to UCI right now i would in a heart beat. im pretty sure that wouldnt happen, and my grades arent even that good (i have a like a 2.4 - raped by calculus =[.

would i get any special treatment since i was accepted in highschool?
what are the probably measures i can take right now to transfer to irvine?

thanks for reading guys....i really needed to get this off my chest

Hey daazndood

My friend and I have been making plans to transfer schools also. I decided not to leave UCI, but he might be coming to UCI from UCD. Private colleges are, in a way, much easier than UCs due to grade inflation. If you're getting a 2.4 now, then you may be up for a surprise at any UC. I think it's a good idea to try and transfer out since your heart tells you to. It's always important to be happy in college.

However, getting into UCI right now would be one of the hardest things to do. Your GPA isn't coming around too well and UCs give priority to transfers coming in as a junior and coming in from community college. It's a longshot, but you might as well give it a try. They will not give any leniency because you were accepted in highschool from what my friend and I found out (it might be different). Good luck to you.

Hi I have a similar dilemma but quite opposite. I just got into UOP pre pharm program today and I am not sure if I should attend UCI or UOP. UOP's tuition is quite a lot. At UCI i will only pay for dorming books ect and it would be cheaper. While at UOP I would have to pay a very high amount. The advantage of going to UOP is that I have a greater chance in making it into the pharmacy grad school since I would be in the pre pharm program. If i go UCI than transferring to a grad school after getting a bachelors is more complicated. What do you guys think I should do?

Here's what it breaks down as. If you're sure you want to do pharmacy, I recommend UOP because you can go directly in and do the accelerated program. You might be able to apply for the accelerated program when you are there? If you're not sure, then go to UCI. You'll have more options here.

how did you get into the prepharm program at UOP? are you going to be a first time freshman or are you already at UCI?

I am going to be an incoming freshmen at UCI and I got into UOPs pre pharm advantage program but I dont think I am going there

UOP's pre pharm program is awesome.
