So, I'm a sophmore, and I've started to get e-mails from colleges. From what I've read, this is normal, because colleges get your contact information from your PSAT. However, I haven't taken the PSAT yet, so what gives? I've been getting them since the July 23, an invitation to an open house, before I was halfway through summer break. What gives?

My guess is that it just means that your name got on some mailing list.

Yes, sometimes the colleges can get your email through other means.

Any ideas as to how though? My only guess is that it’s due to an AP exam I took freshman year.

Yes, that’s probably it. From what I’ve seen, every standardized test(with the exception of your state test)has the ‘do you want us to give your email to etc etc.’ option on the test form. Considering how 99% of highschoolers are just filling the test form out ASAP just to start the darn test without really reading it, it’s pretty much a guaranteed they’ll fill in yes to that option.

Did you take ACT explorer or PLAN? Collegeboard is not the only company that would sell the mailing list.

I took something called the Explore test in 8th, and have taken the PLAN, but I don’t remember those saying anything about sharing info to colleges. It was probably the AP test then. Thanks everyone.

Of course, AP is from College Board too.

After I took the PLAN I started receiving an abundance of college mail, so that probably contributed.
