These colleges sent me letters- what does this mean?

I'm a 10th grader who took the PSAT and recently colleges have been sending me letters that all have the same thing: a website/link and/or a request certificate with my academic interests on it. I got them from University of Richmond, Drexel University, UVA, and University of Miami, so far- does this mean anything? Are these colleges based on my PSAT score or r they just random colleges?

Did you check the little box that allows the college board to "share" your name and other info with "carefully selected" schools and such? If so, hence the mail.

They are colleges that asked for a mailing list based on a range of PSAT scores and interests. You were on that list. Does it mean anything? Yes - and no. They want you to apply, but they might not accept you. My daughter got one from Princeton and was rejected.

I am also a sophomore who took the PSAT and have recently been bombarded with e-mails from several colleges, as well. Like Momwaitingfornew, they want you to be an applicant to their college, but that doesn't mean you'll necessarily be accepted.

get used to it. there will be days where it will be hard to pull all the mail out of the box. the fun part is ripping up the letters, or burning them if you like that sort of thing

doesnt mean nething... if your interested respond back and get on a mailing list, but dont it too seriously

they don't mean anything. I got loads. I'm only applying to 7 schools, and one of them didn't even send me stuff til the end of junior year

My AP Gov't teacher had an interesting perspective on the subject. She told us to keep it all in a box in our closet. Then, if we were ever feeling low and like no one loved us, we could pull that out and see how many schools wanted our attention.

^^ Noone ever told me to do that but I do. I just feel happy when I get something good in the mail. I would recommend it to anyone. Even though it doesn't mean anything like everyone else said, it means something to your ego if you are feeling depressed.

I throw away the ones from the crappy colleges and leave the ones from the top 25.

They just want you to know what their college has to offer, but it does not make any impact on admissions.

its kinda annoying, but you kinda get the sense of the colleges out there. got one from stanford :P

haha, for whatever reason I stuck them all in one of my email folders.
I've gotten 384 college-related emails since 10th grade.

I feel happy when I get my admission ticket in the mail. I don't know if that's something good; but I like getting mail.

MY 2000TH POST!!!

hands stuck-on-1700 a homemade fresh chocolate chip cookie with extra chocolate chips

Yeah, I remember the onslot of mail beginning after the PSAT(except it started when I was a freshman, because we were allowed to take it) . Just make sure you don't respond if you aren't interested in the college. I replied to Univeristy of Miami because it was the first one I got and I've gotten close to 50348530 things from them since then.

But, I have kept almost all of mine. I have a huge box full of letters. Currently I have 618 UNREAD emails from colleges.

Most of the reason I'm doing this is because I'm thinking of working in the admissions office while getting my masters, and sadly my college (Wake Forest) is horrendously behind other colleges with getting out letters to prospective students. I didn't get one such letter until AFTER I was accepted (go figure that one out).

But it is nice to get them all. I have ones from Harvard, Princton, Yale etc. and it is pretty cool.

However, my family thinks I'm insane because I was accepted in July and have been keeping letters up until this point haha.

I say: keep them if you want and have room, otherwise toss 'em.

somehow stuck-on-1700 has had his 2000th post twice now....

my mail from colleges is just scattered in random piles throughout the house. There have only been a couple days since I took the PSATs that nothing came.

Absolutely nothing.

I'm a senior right now. I took the PSAT in 10th grade. A few months later, colleges started sending me emails/letters...some from completely random places I've never heard of. I have 1004 unread emails from colleges in one of my email folders...

"I throw away the ones from the crappy colleges and leave the ones from the top 25."

Guess any school outside of the top 25 isn't worthy enough for you? Ugh.

I have hundreds of piles of college stuff too. I have got something from pretty much every univ. or college I would want to go to (CSM, CU, CSU, MIT, etc.).
