College experts discuss high school suspensions - College Confidential

I am a high school sophomore that got a 3 day suspension for “smoking” at school. I did not have the drugs with me. I regret it a lot honestly. I made something dumb i was not supposed to do.Now my parents are concerned about my future. I promised my parents i was going to race my grades up and show them that i could do this even though i made a dumb mistake. I really want to go to collage and show my parents that i could do it that i am strong enough to show them i care about this. I want to show my brothers and sister that even though i made a dumb mistake i could still go to collage and to not follow my footsteps. I really want to be a pediatrician. But they are worrying me that this is not going to let me into collage or even find a job. If i start behaving at school, have good grades and everything could i still be able to go to collage?

Yes, I’m sure there is a college you could go to.

@cassandracandy Are you typing from a phone? Your typos and rambling sentences are difficult to read. If possible, pls post more coherently to communicate your distilled thoughts. It makes one question your ability when you type “collage” vs “college”. You deserve a fair answer and you don’t want to off-put potential replies. I agree w/poster #2.

Did you read the linked articles?? You’ll be fine. Scare tactics – that’s all.

^i agree with @T26E4. In fact, the mistakes in the OP were so … odd … that I sensed “tr*ll” and didn’t respond.

Yes. I was typing from a phone.

I am a 2 year high school student and I have gotten 3 out of school suspensions and my gpa is a 3.0. I am very very concerned about my future in college because I don’t believe Ill make it. But, I need to make it for myself and for my family. I am in desperate need of help!!!

Hi I have been involved in 4 fights and suspended for every one , I am currently a 11th grader , the first 2 fights were in 7th grade the 3rd was in 8th and the 4th one was in 9th grade , I haven’t been in trouble ever since will this affect my chances of going to college,

@Stephanie310 you don’t have to mention suspensions before high school. I am more concerned that you seem to be unable to control your anger befroe it results in a fight. I strongly suggest you think about getting counseling. The problem is, colleges will be concerned becasue they don’t want a student on campus who is prone to starting fights.

You need to be proactive. Go to your guidance counselor at school. Ask him or her this question. Most importantly, talks with your counselor about how you are going to take steps to stop this from happening again. If you can come up with a plan that shows you are remorseful, with perhaps an explanation by your counselor as to why you fought, and that you are taking steps to prevent it from happening again, such as going to counseling, your chances of getting into college will be much better. You need your counselor to explain any home or family circumstances that will shed light on your issue. Do you have an abusive parent? Is your family struggling? Have you been diagnosed with any illness or learning disability?

Don’t lie on an app. The counselor is going to,probably mention the suspension. You have to be honest and face your issues. Come up with a plan NOW, becasue you need your counselor on your side. Good luck.
