I would really like to know what the Cal QB and coach were thinking when they went for it instead of kicking a field goal. You should always play it safe and go into OT if you’re playing at HOME and have the momentum going into OT.

Well, works for me. Ohio State will be #1 again. GO BUCKEYES!!!

Oh I know, none of the preseason top ten remains undefeated. We have an extremely tough schedule (at Michigan St., Wisconsin, Penn State, at Michigan) and so do BC and USF, so it’s still anyone’s season.

It’s not Riley’s fault…completely. We just sucked up a storm today.

4 turnovers, a missed FG, couldn’t get a TD in four plays at the 1 yard line, a pretty crappy defense, and a mix of terrible ref. calls (I hate Pac-10 officiating) make for one sad golden bear =(

Ironically, I was discussing the possibility of winning Big Game with another LSJUMB member during today’s Stanford game. He insisted something to the effect of “no one can beat Kal”; I tried to change his mind. Neither of us knew that Kal had already lost.

And by the way, we at Stanford prefer to go with the coaches’ poll and think of USC as #1 until last week, not #2 ;)

It is all coaching you all and Miami are so much more talented than we are, but we have Jim Grobe and he’s one of the best coaches in the country.

I just hope folks will stop saying “WOW! Wake Forest actually beat FSU!?!?! WHAT AN UPSET” and neglect the fact that we are simply the better team.

No doubt about it - Wake is better this year and especially last.

I really doubt the talent angle. FSU had how many Top 5 recruiting classes and look at what happened to the team. We are currently very mediocre. Coaching is perhaps the most obvious reason, but passion has a lot to do with it. Wake, for example, was quite “up” for FSU and ready to play. FSU’s players seemed to be perhaps tired, or flat. The short prep week had something to do with it…we’ll see how they play against Miami Saturday.

I see FSU being two years away from being what I, as a spoiled FSU fan, consider “good”. It is easy to become spoiled when your school became a dynasty program and tough to be closer to the mean.

FSU now has some of the best coaches in all of college football. It will still take time. Those fellows need to bring in their players and have Jeff Bowden’s players graduate.

(yes, rutgers, the brain moves faster than the fingers can type ;))

As has BC arguably. We start the meat of our season next week against VT, then against FSU, Maryland, Clemson, & Miami. In order for BC to stay at #2 we’d have to beat every single team by a lot, with the exception of VT which could be a close game.

No personal offense to anyone who might be rooting for these teams, but… My personal observations/wish list for the rest of the season:

I was glad when South Florida lost last night.

I can’t wait for the Hokies to steam roll the frauds that are Boston College. It doesn’t have to be the Hokies. FSU and Clemson might be able to take care of business too.

It would be highly amusing to see Notre Dame eek out a win over USC tomorrow and lose all the rest of their games, marking their season by exactly two victories over bitter rival Los Angeles universities.

I hope Cal slaughters UCLA.

I hope Auburn beats LSU and Kentucky beats Florida tomorrow (fat chance, sure, but hey).

Ohio State finally gets into the meat of their program with upcoming matchups against Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan. Personally, I would love to see all five beat tOSU in one terrifying month-long hell ride for the Buckeyes, but at least two loses would be great. I don’t want to see Ohio State all revved up for another National Championship in which an SEC team just whups them.

OSU can be terrifyingly good. They messed up Southern Cal last year and did it to Cal this year. Last week Cal was on first down, one yard away from OSU’s endzone. They tried four times and couldn’t get past OSU’s defense. The fourth time they were literally inches away from the endzone. They just couldn’t do it.

I think in the future, Washington and Jake Locker have the chops to be forces to reckon with within the Pac-10. They kept it up with USC and beat Boise State, which is I feel decently noteworthy.

It would hilarious and sad if Stanford manages to win against Cal (not likely) in the Big Game, making their season wins USC, Cal and… San Jose State.

Its strange how this year the top five for one week included Boston College and South Florida. Its strange how Kentucky is ranked higher than USC and Michigan dropped off the ranking completely for more than a month.

Question: anyone think USC is just going to implode? Is the “dynasty” over?
