College Football Discussion 07

Ray Rice had 184 yards last game and 3 TDs. Teel had 2 TD passes/300+ yards. He seems to be much better this year. It's a little early to tell since last weeks game was against Buffalo. We'll wait to see. Your entitled to your opinion though?

Who is your team?

eats crow like a little ** *

Cals offense is impressive this year, I really underestimated Nate, hopefully the Pac Ten will get some respect nationally this year, and we won't have to hear comments from Les Miles anymore.

I think a lot of people, including the ESPN commentators, were rooting for Cal tonight after the LSU's coach made that classless comment about USC/Pac-10 publicly.

The SEC's good and all, but the Pac-10 isn't anything to sneer at. It was great seeing the dejected Tennessee crowd leave to the chant "Pac-10 Football" though =P. GO BEARS!!!

i HATE cal, but i have to admit they're offense was great against tennessee. i still think the SEC is the toughest conference to play in though. :) i guess the Pac-10 deserves a little more respect.

It's not so much about whether what LSU coach said is true or not. It's his classless act of commenting on it, especially when the season hasn't even started yet. It was stupid and unnecessary. If it were the end of the season and he's trying to lobby for his team to get into NC, then it's probably different.

Rutgers does NOT have a good offense; they're actually the one of the worst offenses in the Top 25. West Virginia has a ton of weapons, as does Louisville. Rutgers cannot compete against WVU and Lousiville in the Big East. The only reason they did so well last year was because no one really expected them to make a big push like that. This year, the competition is gonna turn up the heat on Ray Rice and expose Rutgers' weak QB play. They're a one man offense.

AG –

Uhh, I don’t think putting up 28 and 39 points against UL and WVU, respectively, qualifies as “not having a good offense”.

And the Rutgers O – outgained BOTH the UL and WVU O’s last year in their respective matchups (RU: 332 net yds; 6.5 yds avg gain / UL: 266 net yds; 4 yds avg gain; RU: 452 net yds; 7.2 yds avg gain / WVU: 439 net yds; 5.7 yds avg gain).

And while Teal is still a developing QB, he still managed to pass for more yds than either the UL or WVU QBs.

(Granted, these stats may just mean that UL’s and WVU D’s stink worse than RU’s – but RU still has to have a pretty good O to put up these numbers).

CB -

I never quite understood why you were disparaging Cal's speed - if anything, the Pac-10 is known for being a "speed and finesse" conference, with the criticism of being a "soft" conference.

^
To be completely honest, it had nothing to do with their players, I was just sick and tired of Cal getting hyped (think back to last season when people were crowning them Pac-10 champs in the pre season) and I figured that Tennessee would be a lot faster, probably because I bought into the SEC speed hype.

I hope Cal beats USC. I hope Nebraska beats USC. I basically hope anyone beats them.

Maybe, but at least it will bring some heated competition if Pac-10 v. SEC meet in bowl games. And what a game if USC and LSU meet in the NC...

dont worry, UCLA will get them. Go Bruins! :)

GatorEng,

Maybe Miles is already making an excuse for his predicted loss to Florida (we deserve to be in NC even with one loss!). ;)

Haha! Can't wait until that weekend...

Michigan is outta the top 25. ouch

AP rankings aren't really too important at this point in the season anyways. If Michigan is worthy, they'll climb back up in time. Their season isn't over - they could still realistically go, say, 9-3 and land a decent bowl.

Meanwhile, Colt Brennan is already building his Heisman resume. 34/40 in only 2 quarters of play? Yikes.

so many good games to watch on tv this weekend! i'm excited

Louisville has the worst defense of a Top 25 team - 550 yards allowed versus Middle Tennessee State. Ridiculous.

Haha Strykur, I just saw some of your posts on BearInsider...and seriously, that Louisville game was just points and yards and penalties everywhere.

UL, WVU and Rutgers all have suspect defenses.

Gotta love Stew Mandel's (CNNSI) take on the SEC being the best conf. (and yes - the SEC probably has been the best conf. the past couple of years).

I am so tired of hearing SEC fans say that "the second-best Pac-10 team beat the fourth-best SEC team" when Cal beat Tennessee. Is that all they got?
