You should have to earn your way into the national title game. You shouldn't be able to get there by default because you don't have any losses to immediately exclude you.

We talk about how the SEC has such a hard schedule whereas other schools do not.. check out the article on MSN about this..

LSU plays NOBODY but they're still amazing  Maybe if they'd go on the road more than like 3 times a year too..

Some SEC fans will reason that even though SEC teams infrequently play outside of conference, all their conference games are test enough. They will say the SEC is the toughest, most battering conference in the nation. Honestly, they may be right. LSU in particular, they plays cupcakes, sure, but they also have to get through very good Florida, Georgia and Auburn teams. And then there are the tricky teams that don't have as shiny records but can nonetheless sometimes trip up an LSU/FL/GA: South Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas.

I'm not an SEC homer but their teams often play some of the most exciting games in the nation. You can't tell me that the aformentioned Auburn-MSU 3-2 game wasn't eye-catching :P

As for tonight, I like how the Colorado Buffaloes won against #21 West Virginia in the season after they beat #3 Oklahoma. Some teams just have the magic. It'd be funny if Stanford beat SC again, honestly.

Go Pitt! .

Let's Go Vols!!

Of course you should have to earn your way in. I think we just differ in the definition of "earning" it: In my book, winning every game constitutes earning a spot in the title game.

Wohoo Vandy is in the top 25

it should be USC vs. Vandy for the national title

^ If they get past Georgia and win the SEC championship game...it's a strech at this point.

I see USC losing to a Pac-10 team this year. ;)

Going undefeated against teams that are nowhere near the top 50 is necessary, but not remotely close to being sufficient for making a claim at being the best team in the nation. I'm not particularly impressed by teams like Hawaii doing something that at least 20 other teams in the country would be able to do with a similar schedule.

vandy averages 80 yards per pass per game. this won't get them far, especially in the SEC. How did they get this far?

It's because vandy ranks #2 in FBS in turnovers gained. there's no need to move the ball when you can get the other team to do it for you :)

They're defense is looking pretty good ;)

Not only that but their schedule is not so bad either. With miss. state and duke coming up, Vandy will probably be going to a bowl game.

If they're as good as advertised then they could even conceivably finish as high as 9-3 with totally feasible wins over kentucky, tennessee, and wake forest.

I don't know. This team seems different. Maybe it's Sanchez, but I just don't see them losing to a Pac-10 team this year. My biggest worry is Arizona though, on the road and they've improved (although how much is yet to be seen since they've only played UCLA who is really bad this year).

As for the SEC, this year they and the Big 12 are the best conferences, but I would still like to see them schedule other BCS conference teams occasionally. I see why they don't as the way the post season is structured it doesn't pay to play top teams OOC.

Sooo.... SEC vs. Big 12 in the Championship game, anyone?

screwwwww oregon, i cant believe we lost

Well.... little Oregon State just upset the Pac 10. I hear everyone celebrating from across the campus.

No offense to USC fans, but hasn't the past couple years been the same? The same National Championship/best defense in the nation/Heisman quarterback/the next-Reggie-Bush-receiver/#1 ranking hype thing, and then the team beeps itself when it comes to unranked Oregon State/UCLA ('06), Stanford ('07) and Oregon State ('08)? It's like they know how to play the big boys with pomp, but meltdown when it comes to games they should take care of easily.

USC should know by now-- never take any Pac-10 team for granted. They ALL show up to play USC. They look AHEAD of their schedules and subsequently lose games because of USC. And sometimes, it pays off, or it gives the Trojans a run for their money.

Anyone have a guess for the Rose Bowl? I still think SC will end up there (yet again) by the end of the season, vs. Penn State or Wisconsin (oh man I hope it won't be Ohio State again).

USC just made Florida, Georgia, LSU and Oklahoma extremely happy.

Fight On, USC, Fight On =P

Oregon State is the dark horse of the Pac-10 that always somehow manages to finish the season with the 3rd best record...
