hey i was just wondering what were some of the major football colleges

Michigan, OSU, USC, Texas, LSU, Florida are almost always among the best of the best.

Are you thinking about this as a potential athlete? Or are you looking for an atmosphere of Saturday afternoon fun?

All Pac-10, Big Ten, Big XII, SEC, and ACC schools will have big college football. Some teams are obviously better than others.

I would add the following schools to LeBronJames list:
Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Alabama are very storied programs.

SEC football is just at a totally different level than the rest of the NCAA, plus the big rivalry games can't be beat in terms of quality of competition and great tailgating.

Granted Ohio State and Michigan is the greatest rivalry in all of sport

^ Agree about SEC football...it's a religion.

I attended several Michigan games last several years, and it gets crazy every game. OSU vs Michigan is intense. good stuff.

Auburn University
Louisiana State University
Ohio State University
Oregon State University
Pennsylvania State University
University of Alabama
University of Florida
University of Georgia
University of Iowa
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
University of Nebraska
University of Notre Dame
University of Oklahoma
University of Oregon
University of Southern California
University of Tennessee
University of Texas-Austin
University of Washington
University of Wisconsin-Madison

RICE FOOTBALL RULES.

I'm totally kidding.
But I wish I weren't.
They're so lovable... One day we shall win. One day...

As an LSU wife, though, those folks know how to tailgate... That's quite an experience. Geaux Tigers.

have to add Washington state and Michigan state in there also..

I don't know enough about WSU, but MSU doesn't have much of a football program, neither in recent year nor historically. MSU was decent in the 1950-1966 (MSU's 1965 and 1966 teams were amazing, winning back to back Big 10 titles and National Championships) period, but has accomplished very little before (1950) or since (1967). In the last 40 years, MSU has managed to compile a very mediocre 225-223-7 (0.500) record and won just three Big 10 titles (all three shared). MSU participated in low-mid level Bowl games and still managed to come out with a poor 2-10 Bowl record in the last 40 years. Now Iowa's record (240-206-9) over the last 40 years wasn't much better than MSU's, but they have enjoyed more league titles and a more impressive Bowl record.

Now if we were talking Basketball, MSU would definitely make the list of the top 10 programs in the nation.

Granted, people in SEC country tend to be hardcore (partly b/c there aren't as many pro teams to follow as in other parts of the country), but even the SEC doesn't have as many 100k+ stadiums as the Big Ten.

^^ You don't NEED pro teams when you have the SEC. Besides, we have the Titans and Falcons.

For a little variety away from the NCAA you could look at the Fighting Saints of Carroll College 5 time NAIA champs over the last 6 years!

Sorry - it's the OTHER way around.

It's the same reason why Husker, Sooner FB and UK BB fans are so rabid.
