Wow, this is extremely pessimistic of me-- I'm either going to Indiana University or Valparaiso University as a freshman this fall. I'm double majoring in English and theatre (or at least, that's what I think I'm majoring in right now =P). My concern with IU is that the theatre program will be too competitive, and as a theatre major-- I want to get performance experience. I don't necessarily mean getting big parts as a freshman, but I'd hate to see myself not even getting small parts until my junior year or something. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like a college visit is really going to tell me how I'll feel about IU theatre, unless I can sit in on an audition or something.. Valparaiso, on the other hand, is small, close to home, but more expensive and doesn't do nearly as many plays or seem to have as big of a program.

Anyway, assuming that the one I pick ends up not suiting me.. Where can I look into transferring? My high school stats are: 3.96/4.0 GPA, 9/343 class rank, 2030 SAT (600 math, 700 writing, 730 verbal), decent extracirriculars (a lot of theatre experience) but not nearly enough community service, but I can try to work on that this summer/first semester of college.

Basically what I'm looking for is a school with a good theatre program that will accept a transfer student, and isn't so intensive that I can't double major. Needs a decent English program. I don't want to go to an art school, in case I decide the arts aren't for me.

Preferably in midwest/northeast US. Merit-based scholarships or good financial aid even if you don't have a particularly low EFC would be nice.

thanks for any advice :)
