College GPA Calculation

I know that many colleges calculate your GPA on a different scale. My question is do they calculate A-'s as lower than A’s. Im talking about HYP in particular. Also, do these colleges calculate your freshman year into your GPA or not (I recieve 2 A-'s my freshman year that why I’m asking). Finally, does it help if you if your class rank is out of a large number of students or not? Right now I am 1st out of 950 students.

Any help is appreciated.

I'm not sure how your school does it, but at my school semester grades are only reported as A and then B and then C etc. So it makes no difference if you had a 90 or a 100 in the class. CONGRATS ON BEING 1st IN UR CLASS!

Supposedly the A-'s don't hurt.

And yes, being valedictorian is always impressive. The larger the class the better...being 1/950 is as rare as a perfect SAT score. The only potential drawback is that your school may not be very competitive, but being a val in that large of a class makes up for it.

Dont worry about "GPA" in the sense that it is a number that will make or break you....Colleges actually get to see your full transcript and NOT just a number....They will see honors and AP classes, +'s and -'s, Pass, High Pass, Dropped Courses, etc.....Two A-'s freshman year will NOT make a difference even though it may lower your GPA by .01 or whatever...
