college hookups

are college hookups really as common as portrayed in movies? it just doesn't seem that common around my campus, which surprises me.

Depends who you hang around with.

Not around my group of friends at school. People date, then hook up. Yeah, there are hookups, but they are typically limited to certain groups. Hookups have happened, but they aren’t very dramatic at my school. Flings happen, people know about them, and it’s not a big deal. Honestly, none of my friends just hooked up with someone they met at a party. They have hooked up with people they have gotten to know, and many times it ends up with a relationship. But this is at a school with less than 5,000 people. State schools and party schools are probably different.

Nobody I know has had a casual hook up except, um, me-- and he eventually became my fiance. lol. I think it just depends on the crowd you hang out with, even at a big state school. I would bet it’s more common in some social circles than others. I would also bet a lot of people who go on about hook ups all the time are all talk.

Depends on the school, as others have said. And the people you hang out with.

I know a girl who has hooked up with literally half of the guys in one fraternity.
I also know people who haven’t so much as kissed, dated, whatever with anyone all through college.

Also, it depends on your definition of ‘hook up.’ I swear every single person has a different definition.

What does hook up mean? :S. If it’s just makeout then it happens most nights out with my group of friends. Sex, not so much. But I don’t hang around those kind of people haha, my guy friends seem to (but theyre proper lads) but not my girl friends.

depends on where the alcohol is lol

Eh, at my college, random hookups are rather common (I may be guilty of it a few times). It’s on the whole a rather openly sexual campus, which is ironic seeing as it used to be a place for wealthy Southern belles to get their MRS just a few decades ago.

As for the extent of the word “hook up,” it depends on the person stating it. I usually use it to mean make out, and will say sex if I mean sex.
