The time for college interviews has arrived for S18! I am working on summer plans and wanted to get feedback on whether it would be best to conduct interviews during on campus visits this summer? Or wait until the representatives visit his high school in the fall? The top colleges he is interested in will come and visit his school September - November. Which would be preferable?
At least in our district, when college representatives visit the HS they have group meetings not individual interviews. My D was able to arrange to interview with a couple of admission officers when they were in the area visiting high schools, but that was arranged through the college admission office and I think she had a bit of good fortune in that regard. Many times the local interviews are done by alumni rather than admission officers.
If your have time to get the interviews done at the schools over the summer then I’d go for it. In general,my D felt the interviews with admission officers were better as the college admission officers were more informed and better interviewers than the alumni she met with.
Thanks for the info - I can see how it would be better at the college!
I agree with happy1. In the end, it depends on the competitiveness of the university. If they are relatively easy schools to get into, most likely it won’t matter how the meeting is conducted. But for the more competitive ones, having an in person meeting could make or break your chances at getting accepted. In any case, seeing the campus and getting a feel for it is the most important thing.
