So I landed an interview with a Northwestern Alum and they asked for a resume. I’m kind of unsure how I’m supposed to write out this resume. What exactly do they want to see? Should I list every activity I did (even those I clearly don’t care about)? Should I use the Naviance resume builder or a resume format other than from Naviance?
Also, how important is it to have references?
Keep it concise and to the point. Try to keep your resume to the length of one page double-sided. Bullet point extraucrriculars you have been involved along with a brief description, you probably shouldn’t write too many details because the interviewer wants a general understanding of what you have been involved in and you can go into further detail at the interview. Include you contact info and an overall objective on the top related to your educational and career goals. I think that it is pretty important to have references, make sure you let your references know in advance if they may be contacted.
Google “resume high school senior” and get a ton of examples of what to put on the resume and how to format one. I am not familiar with the Naviance tool but many formats are acceptable.
You don’t have to list every single thing you ever did in HS – it is fine to keep the resume to things you care about and would want to talk about at an interview.
And no need to include references on a resume.
Don’t stress about this. If alumni are asking for resumes it’s just to have something to jog their memory when they are writing reports. Alumni don’t have access to your application so don’t have any info other than your name, contact info, and maybe your intended major. I agree with happy1 about just google sample resumes.
Under the education section, should I also put down my state college if I took a dual-credit course (at the college campus itself) during the summer.
I wouldn’t over due things. But a brief mention in your timeline of the class, school and grade is ok.
