College Kids' Spring Break Plans

I think my son has one of the first spring breaks, which began this week. He and his girlfriend flew down to Phoenix to stay with Grandma and Grandpa for the week, so it won't be a "wild" trip. Well, it might be for Grandma and Grandpa ;) I've always hoped he'd be interested in one of those alternative spring break trips, but he says he doesn't want to end up with a random group of kids.

S is coming home and working on a math paper, hopefully for publication.

He’ll be painting our living room and upstairs hallway. I’ll supply the paint and a Jimmy Buffet CD.

D will be looking for a summer job.

We are going up to see her. Request made by her last fall - when are you going to come up and meet my friends? Apparently most stick around over the break. ;)

That is when my son found his summer job, and he gets to go back this summer.

S will be coming home. Not looking for a summer job [again] but this year he has a good excuse because he’ll have Sophomore Summer this year. And much to my amazement has begun thinking about employment possibilities at school and environs during the summer

This week, the first week, S2 is down in New Orleans on an outreach program for arts and culture and also Homes for Humanity. Second week he comes home to guest teach.

S1 had his last week. Graduating architecture class went for a tour of NYC.

S1 heading down to Mexico…Rocky Point…sleeping on the beach with his fraternity brothers and drinking cheap booze. Based on the last trip 2 years ago will likely be avoiding the drug lords and outsmarting the federales (after they pay the requisite bribes). Hopefully everyone will arrive back in the states in one piece and without parasites. Yeah, really.

My daughter is doing collegiate Habitat for humanity, a build in Colorado. Will be gone the whole week. My son will no doubt sleep all day and work his regular job friday and Saturday night

Junior son taking it easy, catching up on work, and interviewing for summer internship. Freshman son is going with a group from his dorm to volunteer at an orphanage in Mexico.

WildChild is going on a cruise with a bunch of his guy friends from NYC to the Bahamas. Don’t even get me started on what I think of THIS plan…
My daughter (grad student) and her husband are going to Puerto Rico. They are good at planning economical trips.
H and I are driving to Florida to sleep on the sofa bed in my sister’s condo (her family will be there).
What’s wrong with this picture?

Habitat for Humanity with her gospel choir in New Orleans. And I’m going to go down and hear the choir! Yay!

P.S. Also has a job for the summer. Another yay!

S1…a few days in the Smoky Mountains and then an interview for a summer internship.

S2…spending a week in Florida.

Hubby and me…at home with the pets! Savoring every minute until H goes off to Iraq for 2 months.

I’m working a college gymnastics meet the Friday night that spring break starts. Then, hopefully go home for a few days and then come back and work another gymnastics meet Friday of spring break.

Evidently both my Ds will be doing training for their respective school’s bike racing season. This is totally new to me - having my nerd girls turn into athletes. They call and complain that they can’t eat enough calories (due to healthy choices that exclude fast food) to get through the training week.
We hope to get to one of the cities where they will both be racing during my spring break. Probably won’t see much of them over the weekend, but hope they will feel the love if we are there cheering.

D1 is flying home and then she and I are taking a road trip to Death Valley to do some hiking. When she flies back to school, D2 and I will accompany her to see her college and then will take the train to NYC for a few days.

D2 is going hiking/camping in Zion National Park, which is great. The crazy part is she is part of group of intrepid campers from her college who are driving all the way from New Hampshire to southern Utah and back for the trip.

^^D1 and I did Zion/Bryce/Capitol Reef/Escalante last spring, what a great trip! But driving from NH, I hope they have a couple of weeks?! Ah, to be young!

Mine will be hanging out at the beach in SD for the first weekend, then taking advantage of midweek flight fares to be home in time for BF b’day the next weekend.
Shall we start a cc pool for how much time is spent with parents? ;(
