College Kids' Spring Break Plans

S will be going with his roommates to an all-inclusive resort in Cancun. He is paying for it all himself. I looked the resort up on Trip Advisor, and the reviewers indicated that no one over the age of 22 should consider staying there since it is overrun with Spring breakers! I’m sure he’ll have fun. I sent him a care package with pepto-bismol, imodium, and instructions on how to stay safe and healthy. I also bought trip insurance that covered any medical problems that might occur – I’m hoping that purchasing this insurance will be enough to keep anything bad from happening (like carrying an umbrella prevents rain).

Daughter will be home, shopping for clothes for the summer internship she just landed.

And she’s also going to the dentist.

This may sound a bit dull, but our area has an abundance of malls and excellent shopping, and her college is in the middle of nowhere, so it makes sense to shop when she’s home rather than when she’s at school. As for the dentist, well, you have to do it sometime.

S2 is leaving the sunny south to head up to New York (he hasn’t bothered to find out the exact name of the place he’s going) with his roommate and roommate’s older brother to their family’s hunting cabin perched on the side of a mountain somewhere.

It apparantly has no water and is powered only by a generator, with a woodstove for heat. Sounds like torture to me but they think it will be a manly adventure.
I predict an early departure after a few days of “roughing it”. Luckily, an uncle, the owner of said hunting cabin lives down the mountain in a real house the boys can flee too if life in the woods becomes too much.

S2 is headed here on Thurs. I’m really hoping they’ve changed their plans but not betting on it.

All four of my kids will be home. The three oldest who are away are looking forward to just being back. The youngest has no one to go away with. If she did she would certainly go. The oldest three said they just need to be home. I think they miss each other.

Not alot of fun time for my kids. D is studying for praxis exam and scheduled more shifts at her waitressing job. S flies in and goes to the hospital to get his scheduled IV medication infusion that is keeping him pretty well. A break from classes/studying will be good for him right now, even if it’s not fun in the sun.

Marian - congrats on your daughter’s internship.

We most likely are going down to Mexico City for a familiarzation(sp?) visit. D1 will be coming with us to make sure she’ll still have a room with us. She is lobbying to visit Acapulco while we are there.

Son is going to New Orleans with us (mid-March). For him (okay, and me, too), it’s all about the food.

D will be in Trinidad for an alternative spring break. She is extremely excited. I’m just praying no major snow storms disrupt their travel plans!

D is exhausted and wintered out and just wants to come home and crash for a few days. Now, it’s as likely to snow here as where she is, but I guess cocooning in her room with mom cooking is preferable to having to trudge to the store to fend for herself! I’m trying to sneak a few days in Florida into the mix to give her a real shot at some sun. Her break is late (last week of March), so I still have a little time to scheme.

Mine will go on her first “traditional” spring break as a college senior. You would not believe the beach house they’ve leased. I’ve never stayed in such a place. I guess anything divided by 14 is possible. ;)

D was planning on going to Cancun with 4 other girls but, thankfully, those plans fell apart. Instead, one of the girls, who is from Miami, invited the others to her house for a few days and then to her families vacation home in the Bahamas! Must be nice. D is very excited!!

S-2 is hopes to bring some friends from Southern California, Mexico, Israel home to upstate New York. They hope they see real snow.

Sun – been there, done that.

If there’s no impressive snowfall, he can still show them Niagara Falls and the 9-foot-high striped marker on the fireplug that helps firefighters locate it in event of deep snow.

^^this one wins; Sun to Buffalo…

Mine will be searching for work, reconnecting with friends who are at home attending CC and spending a few days skiing in Tahoe.

Mine will trade with any of yours. He’s having his wisdom teeth (and four other teeth) removed.

S will stay at college, probably in front of his computer screen 24/7 the entire time. D will be in France (Normandy). Guess which kid I envy?

Son is taking two friends to his grandparents in Colorado (they have a rental property right next door to their home) to ski for a few days (and will have to think of an appropriate gift to send the Nana in this situation for agreeing). The boys got a good flight, but the rest of the trip is still up in the air… Not sure how that will work as there still seems to be a lot of missing pieces - including getting them from landing in Denver to the mountains themselves, let alone back again! :)

I’m going to Orlando with bf for a week. Yippee!

Daughter and five friends are driving from the University of Miami to Orlando. As students of a Florida College they qualify for instate Disney discount tickets. They were able to buy 4 day park hopper passes for $99.00!!! One of the girls parent’s has a free room for a week that has a kitchen so they can save money. She will have a week at Disney for about $200.00, not bad!!!

D2 is coming home and will go to Vermont (Mad River) to ski with friends from high school who have a condo nearby. I’m flying to Philadelphia (where she goes to school) and going to the Philadelphia Flower Show–after that, the two of us will drive back home together. I (with others) have an entry in the Amateur Horticulture Division in the upcoming Boston Flower Show. I really want to see the show in Philly because it’s considered the best flower show in the country. The Philadelphia Flower Show doesn’t excite D1–but she’s happy to have me take her out to dinner and serve as company for the trip home.
