Hi everyone,
I’m a senior in high school right now, but I’m not exactly sure on what schools to apply to yet. So far, I’m thinking about applying to UCB, UCSD, UCD, UCI, UCSB, UCSC, NYU, and University of Washington. Can I have some opinions and some help in sorting these into reach/match/safeties (although I don’t think I have a safety as of now…maybe ucsc?). Any comments will be appreciated.
Just some information about myself:
-California resident
-Asian, but have U.S. citizenship
-first generation
-GPA (by UC standards for grades 10-11): 4.17w, 3.79uw
-SAT: 720CR, 750M, 670W
-played the violin for about 9 years now; made the district honor orchestra last year (junior year) and in 7th and 8th grade; also performed at disneyland/world multiple times; yearly recitals with private teacher in which I play one individual and one chamber piece
-been in school orchestra since freshman year
-volunteer work at Japanese School (only about 20hrs so far but will work on it) and at nearby community college (I served as a teacher assistant in a language class as a native speaker, 25hrs)
-also went to volunteer for disaster relief in N. Japan (still not fully recovered from 2011 earthquake/tsunami although physical damage done is now fixed) during the summer for a week this year
-participated in educational program held by college students from prestige schools with international backgrounds for high school students in the summer after freshman year
I’m not really sure what major I want to pursue yet, but I’m leaning towards the sciences
