Effective January 1, University of Missouri-Rolla will become Missouri University of Science and Technology aka Missouri S&T. Do you think they noticed the acronym is MUST?

They had to have noticed. The other name considered was Missouri Institute of Technology - another MIT.

MUST motto: "Hey y'all! lookit THIS!"

They also thought about Missouri Institute of Science and Technology which could have been MIST or MOIST:)

At least they didn't go with "Missouri University of Computer Knowledge."

I personally think MUCK would have been rather entertaining!

At one point some decades ago there was talk of using the acronym MU-C for the flagship campus, now known as University of MO-Columbia, or UM-C. A lot of people immediately noticed that MU-C would be pronounced muck.

MUST is OK for the Rolla campus as long as it doesn't get altered to Musty--but it will be.

And now the Columbia campus wants to remove the 'Columbia' altogether and just be "University of Missouri"

I go to Southeast Missouri State University which in the last year or two shortened the name down to "Southeast" on a lot of it's advertising and merchandise. We'll still be SEMO though. We also got a new mascot a couple years ago.. had to get rid of the Indians.
